Julie Jensen Obituary

Julie Ann Jensen

April 16, 1950 -
September 16, 2014

Julie Ann Jensen passed away at Riverbend Hospital on September 16th. She was born to Julian and Gladys Strandlien on April 16th, 1950 in Aberdeen, Washington. Because of her father's work, the family moved several times, living in Bandon, Coquille, Salem, and LaGrande, Oregon. Julie graduated from LaGrande High School in 1968 and attended Eastern Oregon College for three years.

She moved to Portland, Oregon, intending to complete her education, but instead found herself working for KPTV, where she became their Program Director. Later she moved to Eugene where she worked for KMTR, and then the Alumni Office at the University of Oregon.

Julie was a wonderful caregiver for her parents as they aged. She loved her family. She was an avid reader and gardener, enjoyed music, the ballet and animals.

Preceding her in death were her parents, and a baby brother Mark Gregory Strandlien. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Lucy Strandlien of Cottage Grove and a sister, Charleen Kaaen of Walla Walla, Washington. Survivors also include her much-loved nieces and nephews, Alex, Jacob, Andrea, Karin, Brandi, Kirsten, Nathan, Kristopher, and Katie, and great-nieces and nephews Brandon, Sofia, and Soren.

A Memorial Service will be held at Resurrection Episcopal Church, 3925 Hilyard St., Eugene, on October 25, at 1:00 p.m. A reception will follow at the Ford Alumni Center.

Julie was the first person I met from the University of Oregon Alumni Association. In so many ways, she was the UOAA and carried the spirit of the University in all that she did. She was always the first point of contact at every event and I will always remember her smiling face as we would enter the EMU, Gerlinger or the Knight Law Center for our meetings. She will be missed.

My Julie, I'm so glad we shared a day on July 21 and another brief morning visit the following day. For nearly 30 years we shared our April birthdays and Christmastimes with one-on-one lunches that are so memorable. So glad to get to know you through our years at KMTR and our Norwegian language class - so fun! I will miss those days but the memories are special. I know you would have been saddened by my son Ted's passing on September 7, but I'm comforted by the fact that you are both together now in a more beautiful and peaceful place. R.I.P until we meet again. I love you.
