Captain Yackley was my CO when we were with Fox Battery 2nd Battalion 11th Marines. He was a fair and understanding man. My Condolences to his wife and family.

I served with YakFac as a fellow officer and Aerial Observer (AO) in VMO-2 from 1980-1982. He was a good guy, a fine officer, and a superb AO. Consummately professional at all times, he demonstrated the potential then which carried him to the rank and positions of responsibility he ultimately attained. Please accept my sincere condolences to his family and friends. Semper Fidelis.

Toms aviation callsign was YakFac which combined his name with the Forward Air Control mission acronym. I flew quite a few flights with him. He was one of the best. Although an imposing Marine he had a smile even when letting a new Lt know who was in charge. By far one of the leaders in VMO 2 that made it one of the best squadrons in the USMC. We all still stay in touch 30 years later. YakFac will be missed and long remembered.

We served together in VMO-2, and Tom was a supremely competent officer of Marines. He was respected by all who knew him. Well done YakFac, well done.

I was 2nd Lieuentant Yackley's first XO at Hotel Battery where he became my motor transport officer. I rememember the time this car was driven over by a 5 ton truck. We passed paths throughout our careers in the US Marine Corps. Semper Fi, brother you will be missed.

Even though I never knew LtCol Yackley we were brothers as members of the Corps. Thank you for service to God and Country.
