Sara Orr Obituary

Sara Marita Orr (Marita) of Springfield Passed away November 19, 2015. She was 81.

Marita was born February 20, 1934 in Walla Walla, Washington to Clearance and Sadie (Coe) Shinn. Her Father passed away when she was 4 years old. Her mother remarried Victor Newton when Marita was 8 years old, and together Victor and Sadie raised Marita.

Marita graduated from University High School in 1952 where she was very involved in theater. Marita loved acting, and after graduation she performed at the Very Little Theater and other venues in Eugene.

Marita married Norman Orr on November 12,1955, and they made their home in Springfield, Oregon. Marita was employed in the insurance industry working with commercial accounts until she retired. After retirement Marita and Norman lived summers in Springfield and winters in Desert Hot Springs, California.

Marita enjoyed playing cards with friends, bingo and traveling. She visited Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean, Canada, and Mexico as well as a great deal of the United States. Marita also loved going to shows at the Hult Center. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and her many lifelong friends.

She is survived by her three sons and their wives: David and Leslie Orr of Kelso, Washington; Richard and Delisa Orr of Springfield, Oregon; and Brian and Sherryl Orr of Albany, Oregon as well as 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Marita will be missed greatly by her family and her many friends. She will be remembered as a warm, intelligent, caring and friendly woman, as well as for her great sense of humor and infectious laugh.

Mom and I met Marita at dialysis, we sat next to her for almost 2 years and I got to know her as a sweet, caring and vivacious woman. She was positive and full of life. I will miss her. My mom passed 10/1/2015 and Marita was so kind to me. So sorry for the family's loss. She spoke of you all often and loved you dearly. She was a firecracker.

Marita was a great friend since high school in Eugene and was frequently sought out by many of us to help with activities in school and in the local community. We had many out of town trips together with our classmates. We were in close contact through the years and attended many class reunions after graduation. Several of us got together in San Francisco when she was staying with relatives there and we 'dragged Market Street' for several hours in my old Ford coupe with far too many people inside and piled up high. One summer we had a chance meeting as our two boats were moored at Rosario Resort and had a grand meeting there with Marita, Norm, and their child-boaters.

We shared in many conversations and get-togethers with classmates and other friends over the years and frequently talked on the phone. She and her son, David, came to our 50th wedding anniversary in the Seattle area in 2007.

She was a valiant survivor of many health challenges in recent years & admired by many of us for her brave approach to living. We had a wonderful dinner with her on August 22 this year and she was full of fun, and spirit, and good things to say about everyone - very cheerful and upbeat. That evening, she became ill again and could not attend the reunion the next day so that was the last time we saw her. She was still optimistic, looking forward to better days, happy and engaged with everything and everyone around her, still vibrant to the end and still a good and faithful friend to so many of us.

A life very well and joyfully lived and shared with so many of us lucky to have known her. Thank you for being, Marita, and God Bless You and Your Devoted Family!

My condolences to the family. Marita was a classmate at Uni Hi and was always bright and sparkly. She was one of a group who folk danced on our back porch in the summertime and she and I worked together at Mid-State Dental Supply in the late 50's. She will be missed. Ian Walker
