Bert Traver Obituary

Bert Traver
Bert Traver expected to live a long life as her parents did and thanked God every day upon awakening. She died peacefully on New Year's Day 2026, at the age of 99 at the Union House in Glover, VT where she resided for six years. Before that she lived in Glover and previously lived in Watertown, CT.
She had the joy of being with her four children for her birthday celebration in December.
She is survived by her four daughters: Martha Day (Peter), Peg Baer(Bill), Jean Bohan (Jerry), and Ellen Traver (Rod) and many grand and great-grandchildren. Mom was the queen of crossword puzzles, traveled the world, was an avid quilter, reader and bridge player, loved to feed her family, enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was dedicated to her husband.
She was predeceased by her husband Alfred, whom she'd been married to for 76 years, her parents, two older sisters and one of her grandchildren.
She was very much loved by Alfred. On the porch at their home was a sign that read "A golfer lives here who made the best score of his life".
The family is thankful for mom's friend Susan Guilmette and grateful to the staff at the Union House who cared for her so kindly.
Any contributions in her memory can be directed to the Glover library.

My husband and I will always remember Bert and Al Traver as one of the kindest couples we have ever known. They sold us their home on Beach Ave and we loved living in that house and that neighborhood for 11 years.

So sorry to hear this news. For the fifteen years we lived in Barton, I played bridge with Bert. Wednesday mornings at the Orleans Country Club , with all the ladies. My late husband, Doug and I played Duplicate Bridge with Bert and Al at Cobliegh Library and with Huguette Mc Inulty Black at her home. When Bert couldnt get to town we went out to her house. I remember the sign. Bert was a lovely lady and we had lots of laughs. She is missed. My deepest sympathy to all her family.

I truly enjoyed the quiet calm of Bert beside the gruff exterior of Al, both of whom I enjoyed greatly in my professional capacity as well as around the bridge table. I look back fondly at both of them. Rest in peace, Bert.

Bert was one of my favorite personswe often talked about life and cooking. One of her favorite things I made was my family’s Portuguese Soup recipe. She use to tease me by saying I should replace the kale for spinach, and I’d tell her no way!! She was our Queen Bee, she will be missed . Sending love and prayers to her loving family and Sue for not leaving her side till the very end. Xoxo
