Constance Barbara Barker
Newington, CT - Constance "Bobbie" Barbara Barker (May), 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at UCONN Medical Center from complications of developing a brain tumor. She battled metastatic ovarian cancer like a champ since her diagnosis in 2023. As she always lived her life, she never let it get her down and kept "rolling along" as she often said.
Born in Waterbury, CT, on June 16, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Pauline (Nowacki) May. She graduated from Crosby High School to then receive her degree from CCSU in teaching and was a longtime resident of Wolcott. "Connie-Bob" taught in the Town of Plymouth for many years until she retired in the mid 1990s to move to Boca Raton, FL. Always unwavering in her strong faith in God, Jesus, Mary and Joseph, she taught CCD at St. Pius Church in Wolcott for several years. She continued to stay involved in education as a substitute teacher for Palm Beach County for 25 years. She retired in 2021, to move back to CT to be close to her family. Wherever she resided, she remained active in town politics, enjoyed playing the piano, riding her bike, swimming and jogging or walking while saying her Rosary. She so enjoyed the Arts, whether it was to watch her grandson, Joseph, performing, or attend concerts, dances, symphonies and Broadway plays throughout her life. Bobbie was always full of zest for living and loving; she made instant friends wherever she went and would make everyone laugh with her sense of dry and silly humor. She loved to dance and have a "Whoop-dee-do" time wherever there was an opportunity. She was always smiling, upbeat and positive and will be greatly missed by all her knew her.
Bobbie was predeceased by her parents and stepmother, Helen L. (Broniewski) (Santa Lucia) May, and her brother, Roger May of Waterbury, CT. She leaves her loving family to cherish her memory, son, Patrick Barker of Old Forge, NY and his fiancée, Trish Waterhouse; daughter, Dawn Oliveira of Newington and her boyfriend, Peter Dubroski; her grandson, Joseph Oliveira of Newington and his partner, Alexzander Adamson; her sisters, Polly Guglielmo of Estero, FL, Joan Bent of Cromwell and her husband, Steve, and Leslie Groves of Old Lyme and her husband, Carl; several nieces, nephews, many cousins, and dear friends. The family would like to thank Connie's oncology team at Smilow Yale New Haven Hospital as well as her team at Uconn Medical Center where she received excellent care.
In true Bobbie fashion, a visitation party will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main Street, Naugatuck. Additional calling hours will be between 9:30 and 10:30am, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at 11am at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1006 New Haven Road, Naugatuck, followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury.
