Donald Kinney Obituary

Donald C. Kinney Sr.
Donald C. Kinney Sr., age 82, went to his heavenly home on February 02, 2026. He was the 8th child and 7th son of John P. and Flavian B. Kinney of Waterbury, CT. He attended Waterbury schools and was a proud graduate (Class of 1965) College of Holy Cross, Worcester, MA. Along with his degree in Economics, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant J.G. in the U.S. Navy upon graduation and served on the USS Ingraham DD-694, in Vietnam. He then served in the Navy Reserves, where he was promoted to Lieutenant. He was married to his wife, Marianne (Economics,) Kinney, in July of 1966. Together they raised three children, Donald C. Kinney Jr., Deborah Ann (Kinney) Arcovio, and Stephen M. Kinney.
His family meant the world to him and he happily participated in their activities, coaching Enfield Little League, attending Petticoat Softball games, being an Indian Guides Chief, a Webelos Scout Leader and a 7th grade Faith Formation leader at Holy Family Church in Enfield. He worked at the Travelers Insurance Company Data Center for many years and later served as CIO of the Uniprise Division of United Health Care in Hartford, CT. Don and Marianne enjoyed 59 ½ years of a happy and loving marriage, spending time at their summer home on Cape Cod with their children, grandchildren: Jack, Holly, Samantha, Renee, Ashley, Noelle, Morgan and Jordon, and friends who lived on the Cape. Don and Marianne also traveled to Europe and the Caribbean on several different cruises.
Donald is survived by his wife and best friend, Marianne; their children, Donald, Deborah and Stephen; eight grandchildren; brothers, Robert Kinney, Paul Kinney and his wife, Mary. He was predeceased by his parents; several siblings and their spouses, Francis P. Kinney and his wife, Maureen, J. Peter Kinney and his wife, Barbara, J. Patrick Kinney and Eileen (Kinney) DuBois, John Dubois, sister-in-law, Ann (Dodd) Kinney, William Kinney, Elizabeth Kinney, Flavia (Kinney) Sullivan and her husband, Martin, Elizabeth Kinney, David Kinney; and grandson, Tate Kinney.
Visitation hours will be held from 4-7 PM on Friday, Feb 6th, at Somers Funeral Home, 354 Main St., Somers, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 7th, at 10 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church of St. Jeanne Jugan Parish, 23 Simon Rd., Enfield (please meet directly at the church). Following the Mass, Burial will be Private at Somers Center Cemetery in Somers, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Smile Train, PO Box 96231, Washington, DC 20090-6231.
