Roland was my voice teacher and therapist for about a year in San Diego, California. He taught me to keep my whole vocal apparatus relaxed while singing, just as I did while speaking. He taught me many useful techniques to improve my speaking and singing as well as to improve my overall vocal health.
I will always remember Roland with fondness and love. He was a great teacher who really cared about his students. I know a lot of people say that about someone but it´s really true about Roland.
I used to clear my throat, sometimes violently. "NEVER clear your throat," Roland scolded. "Instead swallow your phlegm in good health." I asked my allopathic physician about that and he said that I should spit it out if I could but that it wouldn´t harm me to swallow some once in a while.
Roland also said to never drink coffee or anything with caffeine or alcohol in it within a day of singing. "It dries out and irritates the vocal folds," he explained. To this day I only drink water and I hardly ever clear my throat. If my voice tires, I shut up and listen to others.
Rest in peace, my dear mentor. You have surely earned eternal rest.

Remembering old times in Cleveland, Oh the laughs, stories and lessons you taught me about the voice. A true master teacher of understanding the workings of the vocal mechanism. Will miss you dear teacher and friend!

It has taken me all of these many years to find you again teacher. Although our time in person on this plane was too brief, in your memory and honor, I continue to study. I look forward to learning some of the lessons you taught me, that I was not yet ready to hear. Maybe I will take this voice seriously this time around. Aum Shanti Guru.

As a tribute to Roland, I want to say that in 2021, I still use his CD with voice warm-up exercises featuring the men of Manhattan Transfer. I purchased this from Deborah K. Wyatt of Las Vegas, several years ago when I was fortunately able to locate her on line. The recording was recommended to me by the amazing Patrick Haedtler, the lead singer of BHS World Champion Quartet "MASTERPIECE." Patrick told me several years ago that he uses the recording daily. I am a 77 year old barbershop singer, and now I do the same. It strengthened my voice many times over and improved its quality, by simply using the CD almost every day. I really noticed the difference in perhaps 3 months, but then...wow... your voice keeps getting stronger and better as time goes on. It is an amazing tool (and I am not on the payroll). Thank you Roland for this gift to the world!

Dear Friends of Roland Wyatt,
This Guest Book, as you know, will remain online until 1/4/2014. I would like to make it available, perhaps, indefinitely, if you think that we could contact others who might like to make comments. I would love to see any pictures that you may have. Sadly, I have none. I have spoken with another childhood friend who may have pictures but she has not yet provided me additional information. For those of you who knew Roland as friend, voice coach, teacher, university professor, and whatever other capacity, I'm sure all of us would like to hear more of your experiences with him, along with any pictures you may wish to share. I noticed that someone just posted this month, having only recently learned of Roland's death, a year later. Let me hear from you soon. Please contact me.

I was a vocal student with Roland for 2 years in Pittsburgh PA. His wisdom as well as his vocal technique made a lasting impression on my life. I just found out about his passing and would say that earth's loss is heaven's gain.

It breaks my heart that we lost Dr. Wyatt. I studied voice with Dr. Wyatt when he was a guest professor at the University of Oklahoma. He was one of the most profound vocal coaches who taught me how to find my true voice and passion for performance. I will always remember him and thank him for all he taught me and what he gave to the music community.

Even though Roland's passing has been some time ago, I will never forget how much he meant to me and how his spirit guides me still today. As my mom posted below, he was my teacher while he resided in AZ and changed the way I sing, perform and even view the world. His lessons both musically and personally are some of the most cherished pieces of knowledge I will EVER have. I miss his stories and how they always coincided with a special restaurant or person. The holidays were always a special time with him at our table. As I teach my own students I am constantly aware of him on my shoulder and have experienced moments when the lesson is not my own. He will take over when necessary (as he always knew what best to do for a struggling singer).
No words can express my gratitude to him and the sharing of his wealth of knowledge. I only wish I could have one more day - one more lesson and meal to share stories.
Thank you my dear friend for all you have done and all you continue to do. Your spirit lives on.

Words can't express how sad I am today to learn of his passing. He was a dear friend of our family. He taught my daughter for over 8 years and now she is passing it on to her students. When I first met this man I knew he was going to be a special light in our lives. I wish that someone had contacted us with this news. We have been trying to contact him for over 2 months with no success. I will miss calling and chatting with him. He brightened our days. Love the Butler Family.
