What a sad time for Abilene. Doug is and was so well loved in this small community. He came to every single city event and was so supportive of me and my wife Panissa. We love you Doug. Your beautiful photos will live on for generations in West Texas. In Christ's love. - Dason Williams

Doug's dad farmed and lived on the land across the road from the farm we moved to at Lockney in January of 1958. He and my dad became good long term friends and Mr. Hodel introduced Doug to my twin brother and me the summer before we started school. There were 10 first -graders on that bus route who graduated together in 1970. Doug's impish grin is still there in this photo that we all knew and he shared so freely with everyone. I look at it and still hear that little chuckle of his. He was so proud of his girls! Peace be with you both and Dinah in your loss. Jerry Ulmer

It's hard to believe Doug has gone. I first met him in Lubbock while he worked at Webster Harris Advertising. I will miss his energy, his humor and most of all his friendship. He saw the beauty of the world while looking through his camera, which was an extension of his heart.

My dear friend.. I will miss you every day until we meet again... You made me smile on my worst days... Stopping by and giving me that huge hug and kiss on the cheek at the shop when you were just driving by... you thought of me. I will cherish those moments and our conversations about our kids and grand babies.. The love you have for your family is magical... My heart goes out to your family and God be with them at this time... Love you my friend.... Chyrl Bradfield (Abilene Tx)

Doug and I were close friends in high school in Lockney, TX. He and I had an affinity for fast cars. I talked to him Friday night about NCAA basketball and cars. He was a great guy, a good friend and he will be missed. I'm proud to have known him and call him friend.

I met Doug when I first moved to Lubbock ,He was working at Methodist In P.R ,he was a friend right off , He has know my family for years, But Our friendship grew from the start . I considered him part of my family no matter what, he was just a Phone call away. And 25 year later I cant imagine him not being there to talk to, to laugh with . I would love to hear his stories about his family and how Heather was doing in school , then when she was getting married he was so , Proud , I didn't get to see him daily But we would text or talk on the phone daily or at least once a week . I now keep looking at my Phone thinking "I know Ill get a text soon " I remember when I was setting the date for my Wedding I called Doug (of course to do all the pictures) he told me that it was his honor But really it was mine . I did say you had to still have fun because you are a guest too . he would just smile and say Don't worry Darlin . I pray that his family can find comfort and peace in this hard time . Doug touched so many lives I pray for the healing and that god watches over you during this hard time . And I want to Thank You for sharing Him with me and everyone of us . I know he made a Big impact on my life. and the love that he shared with so many is priceless and a gift that he gave to us all Prayers Lori adams Reeves

I first met Doug when he came to work for Area-Wide Phone Book about 15 years ago. Doug was professional and mixed in lots of fun in everything he did. He was a friend to everyone he met and loved the Abilene community as his photography reflected his heart for life. My family and I will greatly miss Doug in all he had become to us individually and to this little ole West Texas town, Abilene. Bill Umstead
