Edward Mitchell "Ed" Ekdahl, lifetime resident and well respected businessman of Stamford, passed from this life and found his eternal peace on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 in Stamford. Interment for Ed will be held 9:00 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2012 in Bethel Lutheran Churchyard Cemetery in Ericksdahl with Wes Horn officiating. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 29, 2012 at Orient Street Church of Christ in Stamford under the direction of Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home in Stamford. The family will receive visitors from 6-7 p.m. on Thursday evening, June 28, 2012 at the funeral home.
Edward Mitchell Ekdahl was born on October 30, 1935 in Stamford, Texas, the son of the late Carl Edward and Gladys Mae (Conley) Ekdahl. Ed graduated from Stamford High School in 1953, where he played football and loved being a Bulldog. After graduation, Ed furthered his education at Texas Tech University, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. He married Peggy Ann Mahone on April 12, 1963 in Lubbock, Texas. Ed was the founder of Ekdahl Real Estate, and co-owner of C & E Mortgage Company in Stamford. Throughout his lifetime, he was an active part of the Ericksdahl and Stamford communities serving as President of the Ericksdahl Cotton Gin for many years, and was President of the Stamford School Board. Ed also served on the Rolling Plains Cotton Growers and the producer's steering committee for the National Cotton Council. He was active in the Charlie Stenholm Campaign and was involved in the Cross Country Emmaus Community. Ed was a member of the Exchange Club, Stamford Masonic Lodge, Rotary Club, and the Texas Cowboy Reunion Oldtimers Association. He was a member of Orient Street Church of Christ and was a Gideon. So much can be said about this great man, including he was a good husband, father, grandfather and a man of his word.
His parents; and a daughter, Vicki Rhea Ekdahl Wilson preceded him in death.
Family left to cherish loving memories of Ed are his wife, Peggy Ekdahl of Ericksdahl; children, Teri Heinemann of Lubbock, Carla Smith and husband Don of Austin, Kim Meredith and husband Lonnie of Haskell, John Ekdahl and wife Jill of Ericksdahl; grandchildren, Carly Heinemann, Matthew Heinemann, both of Lubbock, Tyson Smith, Rachel Smith, both of Austin, Nathan Meredith of College Station, Truett Ekdahl and Everett Ekdahl, both of Ericksdahl; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and a multitude of friends and business acquaintances.
