Bob Dee Obituary

Bobby

DEE

OUR KING OF HEARTS!

The music and entertainment industry has indeed lost a great talent and legend in the passing of Mr. Bobby Dee, 72. Bob left us suddenly on Sunday, January 11, 2009, at his home in Reno, Nevada.

Bobby's given name was Bobby Roland Holcrow, born April 10, 1936, in Macon, Georgia, to Robert Scott and Ethel McPhail Holcrow (Bobby changed his last name to Dee when he started in the entertainment industry). Bobby attended the University of Georgia where he played football for the Georgia Bulldogs. Bobby also served in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina as a member of the United States Air Force. Bobby was known to have the quickest hands in town as he performed his unbelievably amazing magic and card tricks for countless people including celebrities, CEOs, Presidents and athletes all over the world.

Although he enjoyed entertaining people with his fast drawn and mind-boggling skill with a deck of cards, Bobby's true passion was on the golf course..any golf course. Bobby loved to play golf and he did, anytime and anywhere he could.

Bobby was a producer and director of numerous Broadway productions and an agent to many well-known entertainers, musicians and variety of acts in Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas as well as other cities across the country. He also wrote a column in the entertainment publication Fun and Gaming Magazine. Bobby was inducted by his peers on April 25, 2000, into The Academy of Magical Arts in Hollywood, California.

All of his accomplishments were indeed proud moments in the life of a very special man, as there was no greater joy for Bobby than to be the best father he could be..and to his children, he was! Bobby was not only their father..he was their friend, their mentor, and their hero.

Bobby was not married at the time of his death, but remained very close to his first wife (and mother of his two children), Joy Miller. He is survived by son, Tracey Dee (Stephanie); daughter, Tira Rolley (Drew); and six grandchildren, Chase, Christopher, Cade, Shaylee, Lyric, and Lauren; his sister-in-law, Susan; nieces and nephews, Gwen and Steve, Yvonne and Steve, Lee, Elry, Rachel and Lance; and the entire Miller family, Ben, Joy, John, Jarrad, Mary, Kamilla, Parker and Emily, and Ben Linch. Bobby also left behind a myriad of wonderful lifelong friends who will carry with them many cherished and unforgettable memories that will last them the rest of their lives.

Bobby could entertain like no one else! But for his children, his family and his friends that knew him best, he loved, he laughed and he lived! Bobby Dee really lived. And this irreplaceable, nearly invincible legend who will forever remain our King of Hearts!

A Special Celebration of Life for Bobby will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at John Ascuaga's Nugget in Sparks, in the celebrity showroom. It will start at 1 p.m. . Everyone who knew Bobby is welcome to attend and be a part of this celebration. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bob Dee Memoial Trust and mailed c/o : Julie Straw, CPA PO Box 51113 Sparks, NV 89435.

He was a wonderful kind man and so talented. He was so kind that when he passed though dfw he met me at restaurant so that he could do a few magic tricks for my small kids. They will never forget him and neither will I. I worked for AA and he had illusion act that made a triple 7 airplane disappear. I would love to know if anyone has a video of that.

As usual no matter how I try to be on time I am always late when it really counts. Today is April 10, 2021 I happen to be watching television when Bob had his Ford Fairlane brought to life. My heart leapt within me I heard his voice and choked up. When I knew Bob he had a partner Don Reitz in the Bob Dee and associates company and was booking the band, Edell and the Thunderbirds with whom I was the drummer. I am going to be 81 in June but my memory is still strong mentally and physically. If Bobby was here today I know he would question the mental part though. When thinking of how much I liked and admired this man I know his children even never meeting them. How? It’s as Jesus stated when asked what is God like saying, When you have seen me, you have seen the Father. I am sure there are those who would say, when you have seen Bobby you have seen his children. Thank all of you for sharing this great inspiration for such as I. Richard “Dick” Burns Las Vegas, NV. [email protected]. Peace

I had the privilege of working with Bobby many years ago and have always kept a special place in my heart for him. There was no one better at everything he did, not only the special magic, but the magic of his smile and his warm heart.

I owe a major part of my career and success to Bobby. I will miss him dearly. He brought Sandy and I to Reno in 1976, when no one else would talk to us. I was his roommate for over a year, and got to be with him probably more than anyone. I was very lucky and my life has been enriched for knowing him and his family. I have 1000 stories, but one bit of advice he gave me was when I asked him in 1978 if I should change my hairstyle, as I had it for 6 years... He told me to leave it the way it was. He said, "It looks like a wig now so if you ever lose your hair, you can buy it and no one will ever know!!!"

I have not changed it in 30 years.

Thank you Bobby, and thank you Ben, Joy, Carl, Ann, Tira, Tracy, John & Jarrad for being part of my life too...

Our hearts and prayers go out to all of Bobby's family. Although we only got to see him about once a year we were always reminded of him throughout the year by Legislators who had seen him perform at many NCSL and ALEC events on behalf of GTE.

I don't think that he ever met a person who was not amazed by his fabulous works.

Keep the faith.

Bob Dee was the magical part of a yearly event sponsored for state legislators from the 50 states. He was admired and revered by all those he met and entertained with his card tricks. Bob was eager to share his many, special, God-given talents with others. He never met a stranger. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Bob Dee, you will be missed by your many friends. Thank you for the wonderful memories.
