Charles Stephenson Obituary

Charles "Chuck" Stephenson

- - Charles "Chuck" Stephenson passed away on December 6, 2018 at the age of 89. He had been challenged by COPD, CHF and dementia.

Born in Shamrock, Texas at the beginning of the Great Depression, Chuck and his family were also victims of the Dust Bowl and eventually made their way to central California and the growing agricultural economy. He was graduated from Reedley High School near Fresno in 1947. He served with a Marine Corps contingent on the USS Antietam carrier during the Korean War.

Chuck married Lorraine Mae O'Toole of San Francisco on Jan 28, 1953. Chuck and Lorraine were married 57 years until her death in 2010 from leukemia. They moved to Sparks right after getting married.

In the mid 60s Chuck joined Washoe County School District as nighttime security officer at Hug High School during its construction. Once open he became Hug's daytime security officer until he transferred to Wooster High where he finished his career as a maintenance and facilities worker.

Chuck is preceded in death by his parents, James Mack Stephenson and Sina Melinda Sutterfield. He was also was also preceded in death by all three of his sisters: Zelma Ballenger, JoAnn Daly and Nancy Smith. He is survived by his two sons Bret Alan Stephenson and Michael Robert Stephenson, as well as his brother James Stephenson of Milwaukee, OR., and niece Judy Merskey of San Diego. In addition, he has two grandchildren: Cailin T. Stephenson and Jeremy Stephenson.

A private family memorial will be held in spring to spread Chuck's ashes.
