John Groth Obituary

John Henry Groth

John Henry Groth passed away peacefully on February 9, 2015. His intellect, wit, and kindness to everyone made the world a brighter place. He was loved by all who were fortunate to know him. He was an avid golfer and his hobby was woodworking as he loved to help anyone on their home projects. His family meant everything to him, and he meant the world to all of them.

John Henry Groth was born on October 16, 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska to Albert and Nellie Groth. John served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946 and is a veteran of World War II. In 1947, he met the love of his life Kathryn (Kate) Rose Stanek. They married just four months later on June 7, 1947. John worked for Swift and Company both in Omaha Nebraska and Chicago Illinois for 32 years first and then worked for Bunge Corporation in Kankakee Illinois for 8 years. John and Katie raised their six children in Park Forest, Illinois.

He had survived his mother and father and all five of his brothers and sisters. John is survived by his loving wife Katie and his two sons and four daughters; Linda Holmes (Jeff), Nancy Groth, Greg Groth (Susan), Cary Groth, Patty Newbrough, John Groth (Anne). John is also survived by his many grandchildren who loved him dearly, Deana Holmes, JC Holmes, Joe Hamlin, Jack Hamlin, Kristin Hamlin, Katie Hamlin, Taylor Groth, Cody Groth, Hunter Newbrough, Dakota Newbrough, Jon Groth, Zach Groth, Erica Groth, and Drew Groth. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren Lucas, Ethan, Payton, Aidan, Dylan, and Carson. John also leaves behind his beloved dog, Augie.

A private service was held with immediate family. In memoriam, donations can be sent in John's name to The Canine Rehabilitation Center and Sanctuary, 555 US Hwy 395 North, Carson City, Nevada 89704
