Joseph Girola Obituary

Joseph John "Joe" Girola Jr., 75, of Las Vegas, passed away Aug. 12, 2010 prematurely from lung cancer. He was born Jan. 14, 1935, in Oakland, CA, and was a recent 23-year resident of Las Vegas. However, Joe lived the majority of his life in Reno where he attended schools and raised his family. Joe retired from the Air Force National Guard in Reno and later pursued a career in real estate. In his retirement years, Joe enjoyed boating, building cars, working for Vegas Steel and riding his Harley. Joe's love for life extended to his family, dear friends and his border collie dogs. Joe will always be remembered for his timely jokes, sense of humor and his overall "life of the party" attitude. Joe will be missed dearly by all whose lives he touched. Our hopes are that Joe is happy in Heaven with past members of his family, beautiful women, gorgeous cars, fast airplanes, trains, and Harley's! A celebration of his life may be planned at the Air National Guard in Reno in September.
He is survived by his Daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Mickey Brand; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Radene Girola; grandchildren, Erick, Nicole, Jordan, and Anthony; niece Michelle Bruce, and nephew Michael Teglia.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, September 10, 2010 at Saint Joseph Husband of Mary Catholic Church, Las Vegas, Nevada at 10 a.m.

Dad,
I love you very much and miss you very much. Some of the best memories of my life happened on Mahogony Circle largely because you were such a great father. You taught me every sport and encouraged me through my youth and college. Also, some of my favorite memories of you are when we vactioned on Shasta Lake and listened to Neil Diamond as we waterskiied on our boat. I love you. Your son, Mark

Your father was my friend and my mentor. Sometimes he tried his best to be a father figure as well. We have been friends for 22 years. I miss him so much. Joseph, you are forever in my heart.

Mark and Julie,
So very sorry to read about your Dad. Your Dad helped make my childhood on Mahogany Circle a great one. I'll never forget how funny he was and how many nice things he did for me. I still have my Oakland A's sail boat we built (actually he built) for Cub Scouts and will never forget the Monday Night football game he took me to see the Raiders. He was the best!
