Martin Patrick Gastanaga (49) died May 14, 2016 in a tragic motorcycle accident. Martin lived a life of great adventure, excitement, love and laughter. Born June 24, 1966 in Reno, Nevada, Martin was proud to be a fourth generation Nevadan. He spent his childhood in Lake Tahoe, moved to Reno in high school and graduated from Reno High in 1985. He attended UNR but got sidetracked opening his first business, Aztech Cyberspace, with his dear friend Jay MacDonald which later became Twelve Horses. He held various positions in the technology industry and was most recently employed with Renown Medical Center.
His family, friends and mostly his son, Keltin Gastanaga, were the focus of his life. He was known for working hard and playing even harder. He has been described as "An incredible mix of irreverent rock and roller and big hearted mellow monster". Martin had too many adventures to list; traveling the world, ski racing, working on a fishing boat in Alaska, camping, cabin trips in Paradise Valley and countless motor cycle adventures across the Northern continent.
He is preceded in death by his mother Nancy Patrick and Grandmother Billie Patrick. Martin is survived by his son Keltin Gastanaga, sisters Jessica Gastanaga and Dena Schmidt (Gerritt Schmidt), father Jose Gastanaga, second mother Gloria Gastanaga, Aunt Mimi Patrick, cousins Kris Lohse and Steve Lohse, niece and nephew Nikki Avera and Gage Avera and countless friends and family whom he loved dearly.
To know Martin is to have a story to share. The family would like you to join them and share your stories in a celebration of life for Martin Saturday May 21st at Bower's Mansion Park, Washoe Pavillion at 1:00pm. In honor of Martin we ask that everyone wear their biggest, boldest sunglasses. In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to KNPB or the Fallen Riders Foundation in Martin's name.

We are here for Martins brilliant and fabulous son -Kelton always! I only know Martin as the sweet giant dad of our sons dear friend-Kelton. He is clearly a wonderful and very bright man and this world will miss his precious soul! Our family sends as many hugs and as much support as you need! Much love the O'Keeffes.

I only knew Martin for a brief moment in time; however, he filled that moment with a great big smile and positive energy. He will me missed.

I are so very sorry and sad for the tragic loss of Martin. I am positive I will never forget Martin. He was one of those people who, when they come into your life, always leaves a mark plus wonderful memories. To be sure, he was a character, full of fun. But he could also focus and achieve so much. He was great to work with and watch as he raced down the hill without abandon. In all my years of Coaching the Reno High Ski Team, he was a standout. It is because of athletics like him, that some of the best times of my life were with the ski racers from Reno High. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Coach Bob Porter
