Ruby and Jennifer, May 1993
Don and Elena Mello
June 15, 2014
Our dear Ruby,
Twenty three years ago you came into our home and into our lives. To care for and to help us raise our four month old baby girl as we hurried off to work. Over the course of those first six years you taught Jennifer how to read and so much more. You provided experiences that though she may not remember them, helped to
mold and to shape her life for years to come. The young girl who left your loving embrace to begin school has been a perfect angel. A fitting example of the angel who came into our lives when we, as nervous new parents needed assistance and more especially, someone to trust and to care for our only child. There was never any mistaking the special significance whenever she stood proudly and introduced you. When she gripped you tightly and despite her shyness, would without hesitation and in her tiny little voice say, “This is my Ruby.”
You made our lives fuller and richer and each of us wiser in the process by knowing you. We are deeply indebted to you for getting our baby girl off to a good start, for the extra special things you did for all of us, and for the overabundance of love you shared with each of us. We are so glad that you were still here and able to see Jennifer graduate from college.
You have been and always will be remembered as our precious gem, too.
