Nancy Weidinger Obituary

Nancy Wallis Weidinger

Nancy Wallis Weidinger, 78, of Naples, FL, passed away on Friday, August 16th. A long-time resident of Oyster Bay, NY and Wakefield, RI, Nancy was a devoted wife, a dedicated mother, and a generous friend.

Born on September 10, 1945, in Bronxville, NY, to Dorathea Malloy Wallis and Bruce McAlister Wallis, Nancy spent her childhood in Westbury, NY. She attended St. Brigids and Carle Place High School, where she mastered grammar and beautiful penmanship, qualities she value throughout her life. She attended secretarial school before moving to Manhattan to work at Fieldcrest.

Nancy was 20 when she met her much-loved husband of 43 years, Hugh J. Weidinger (Hughie). They married in 1970 and started a family. Nancy supported Hughie as he grew the family business. Nancy applied the same loving kindness to motherhood that she learned from her adoring parents. Every summer, Hughie and Nancy packed up their young family to enjoy the rustic beauty of the Matunuck Hills in Rhode Island, which led her and Hughie to retire there.

Over the years, Nancy honed

her skills as a garden er, creating breathtaking complex gardens in Oyster Bay, Rhode Island, and anywhere else she called home. A proud member of the North Country Garden Club of Long Island and the South County Garden Club of Rhode Island, Nancy won multiple awards for her floral arrangements. Friends at all stages of home ownership knew they could go to Nancy for guidance about their latest design or gardening challenge. She could make anything beautiful. Her passion and talent for interior design, art, and gardening, and impeccable taste resulted in the creation of gorgeous, welcoming spaces.

Nancy will be remembered as unique, passionate, and decisive. She was a person of deep faith in God. She nurtured and inspired her children and friends to love and trust, was a woman who appreciated nature's beauty and was proud of and devoted to her loved ones. Those who remember her will cherish her wit and positive outlook on life.

Beloved wife of the late Hugh John Weidinger III, Nancy is survived by her children, Hugh John Weidinger IV (Julia), Jessica Weidinger Cox (Philip), and Catherine Weidinger, her eight grandchildren, Hugh, William and Eliza Weidinger, George, Finn and Charles Gruhler, Theo and Elliot Cox, and her two brothers, Tom Wallis and John Wallis.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 23rd at 11 am in Avery-Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St., Wakefield, 02879. Burial will be private. For guest book and condolences, please visit averystortifuneralhome.com.
