Susan Whittle Obituary

Susan R. Whittle of Wakefield went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, Nov. 12, surrounded by her loving family at the home of her daughter. She was the loving companion of James Bolster and beloved wife of the late George Willis. It was at this time she had her four children that were her pride and joy: George and David, and surprise twin daughters Susan and Sharon. Years later Susan married Louis Burgess. During this time, she enjoyed living in London, England and traveling throughout Europe. Unfortunately, this marriage was also cut short by tragedy. She was married to her third husband James Whittle for many years and enjoyed traveling south and spending winters in Florida. Though Susan had multiple tragedies and trials in life, Susan always persevered, lived life to the fullest, and found strength in her faith.
Susan had been employed by the University of Rhode Island for 35 years as an administrative assistant. Susan enjoyed spending time in the garden and was very proud of her beautiful back yard. Susan volunteered at the South County Hospital for 33 years. In her later years, she enjoyed participating in activities at various senior centers and spending time with her beloved companion James Bolster. Born in South Kingstown, she was the daughter of the late John and Adelina (DelPozzo) DiSalvo. Proceeded in death by siblings Frederick, Patrick, Ralph, Albert, Viola, John, Peter DiSalvo and Mary Calitri. She is survived by her son David Willis of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., wife Rita Willis, and twin daughters Susan Vogel, husband Frank Vogel, and Sharon Benson, husband Eric Benson of North Kingstown. She was preceded in death by her late son George Willis III. She was very proud of her five grandchildren, Jason Hunter, Trevor Vogel, Sarah Sue Hunter Stebbins, Tyler Vogel, and Valerie Ann Vogel, and great grandson Blake William Stebbins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 18 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 114 High Street, Wakefield. Burial will follow in St. Francis Cemetery, Peace Dale.
