Donly Woody Obituary

Donly "Don" Woody, age 82, of Kingston, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family and close friends on Friday, June 27, 2014. Mr. Woody was a member of First Baptist Church in Kingston. Preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mary; son-in-law, Don Hood; parents, Charles F. & Eddie Woody; brothers, Charles, Raymond, Fred and Jimmy Woody; sister, Dora Moore.
Don was born September 16, 1931, and was a lifelong resident of Kingston. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who proudly served his country during the Korean War. Don was former Mayor of the city of Kingston and also served on Kingston City Council, Kingston Water Board, Kingston Planning Commission and Rockwood Electric Utility Board. He spent the past 55-plus years working in partnership with his brother, Joe Woody, in Woody Rentals, D & J Realty (Real Estate Broker), also Joe and Don Woody Construction. Prior to the construction business, he worked for TVA and State Farm as an insurance agent in Rockwood.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Dottie Woody of Kingston; daughter, Debbie Hood of Kingston; grandchildren, Stephanie Natasha Duff and husband, Tim of Knoxville, Keri Beatty and husband, Chris of Ft. Mills, S.C., Ashley Smith and husband, Kevin of Kingston, Donald R. Hood Jr., of Dickson; great-grandchildren, Kylie & Kelsey Beatty of Ft. Mills., S.C., Emerson Smith of Kingston; brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Betty Woody of Kingston; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and George Hendrickson of Kingston; sisters-in-law, Irene Woody of Kingston and Margaret Bishop of Loudon; several nieces, nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Wahid Hanna & staff, Dr. Paul Serrell & staff, Dr. Gregory Moffitt & Robin Loveday FNP & staff, Dr. Dwight Willett & staff; and UT Hospice.
The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 1, at First Baptist Church in Kingston. Funeral service to follow at 7 p.m., with the Rev. Sonny Works and the Rev. Kyle Beverly officiating. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at Kingston Memorial Gardens.
