T.R. Register Obituary

T.R. "Buddy" Register, formerly of Kingston, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family March 21, 2017, at the Good Shepherd Hospice in Auburndale, Fla.
Born in Durham, N.C. to the late Theodore R. Register Sr. and Bertha Mae Purvis Register on Nov. 27, 1934, he is preceded in death by his brother, Bill Register; and his son, David Register.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Ginny Register; and his children, Randy Register of Kingston, Steve Register and his wife Louise of Orlando, Fla., Pat Register Hicks and her husband Mitch of Lake Wales, and Travis Register and his wife Blynda of Savannah, Ga. He leaves behind his brother, Don Register and wife Phyllis of Fayetteville, N.C.; his sister, Syble Joiner of Durham, N.C.; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He moved to Kingston with his family from Carrboro, N.C. in 1965. He was a ROTC instructor for the U.S. Air Force at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He then served as the U.S. Air Force recruiter with offices in Harriman, Oak Ridge and Knoxville until he retired in 1974 after 20 years of service. He moved to Winter Haven, Fla., in 1985 where he owned and operated Register's Auto Sales for over 20 years.
There was a memorial service for him on March 23 at First Baptist Church of Winter Haven, where he was a faithful longtime member and Sunday school teacher. There will be another memorial service at a later date when his ashes will be buried at a family cemetery in Lenoir City.

Buddy was my recruiter back in 69, a rarity for young girls from roane co. Because of him I made a career of the AF. I have never forgotten him. He influenced many young lives.
