Agnes Huffman Obituary

Agnes Vernon Huffman, 78, of New Castle, Va. passed away Monday, June 5, 2006. She was born on November 1, 1927 in Birmingham, Alabama, the daughter of Joseph B. and Agnes Johnson Vernon. A graduate of Indiana University with a BA degree, her plans to become a social worker were altered when love intervened. On July 8, 1950 she was wed to Wayne J. Huffman, a marriage of 49 years which culminated with his death on November 15, 1999. She is survived by three sons, Ralph V. Huffman of Fredericksburg, Va., Clyde B. Huffman and wife, Lillian of Gaithersburg, Md., and Roger T. Huffman, of the home who returned to Craig County, Va. to become his mothers' caregiver after the death of his father. Also surviving are a grandson, Andrew J. Huffman; and a great-granddaughter, Britney Huffman. She is also survived by her two siblings, The Rev. Dr. J.H. Johnson Vernon and his wife, Edith of Lynchburg, Va. and Mrs. Joanne Vernon Vonnahme of Louisville, Ky. A dedicated wife and mother, she was also known for her kindness and support of benevolent causes and was active in the Forks of John's Creek Christian Church, so long as her health permitted. She also loved to travel and recently completed a Caribbean cruise with family members. Visitation will be held at the Paitsel Funeral Home, New Castle, Va. on Friday, June 9, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. A private interment service for the family will be held before a public Memorial Service at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2006 at the Forks of John's Creek Christian Church on Route 658 in Maggie, Va. In lieu of flowers, it was suggested by Agnes that contributions be made to either John's Creek Volunteer Fire Department c/o Roger Huffman, Treasurer, Rt. 2 Box 1077 New Castle, Va. 24127 or Hooked on Fishing-Not on Drugs, P.O.
