Joan Johnson Obituary

Joan Cooke Johnson, of Salem, passed away peacefully on her 77th birthday surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was an avid bridge player, member of the Roanoke County Women's Club, actively volunteered at the Salem Clothes Closet, volunteered at Salem Presbyterian Church and recently began working at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem as a Greeter. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to everyone she knew. She is predeceased by her mother and father, Bill and Martha Cooke; and son-in-law, John Irvine Jr. She is survived by her loving husband, Bill Johnson; two daughters, Martha Irvine Crowley and her husband, Michael, Marie W. Oracko and her husband, Steve; grandchildren, Melissa L. Wilcox and husband, Ben, Matt J. Williams and fiancée, T.J. Link, Clay W. Williams, Brittany N. Williams; two greatgrandchildren, Ainsley and Tatum Wilcox; two loving aunts, Myrtle S. Hunt and Nancy Shearer and former son-in-law, Jeff Williams. The memorial service celebrating her life will take place on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Salem Presbyterian Church located at 41 E. Main Street in Salem, Va. The family requests that you consider donations to Salem Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers. The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church reception. Arrangements are being handled by Lotz Funeral Home in Salem.
