Lucille Rader Obituary

Lucille Landers Rader of Cave Spring Farm, Troutville, died on Monday, October 9, 2006 at her home, just thirteen days prior to her 104th birthday. She was born October 22, 1902. She was the last surviving sibling of George William and Maggie Coffman Landers of Troutville and a lifelong resident of Botetourt County. She was the oldest member of the Troutville Church of the Brethren, having joined the church in 1921. She was a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Women's Fellowship Quilting Group. As a teenager, she joined the Troutville Baptist Church and never forgot her ties to that church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Karl E. Rader (1900 1989) and sisters, Eunice Landers and Pauline Mayo; brothers, Julian and Braxton Landers. She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Roy Webb, Phyllis and Bob Woodie, Troutville, Barbara and Don Divers and Carla Campbell, Roanoke; one son and daughter-in-law, John W. "Jack" and Gale Rader, Troutville. She is also survived by ten grandchildren and spouses, Rebekah Woodie and Neal Cook, Fincastle, Mark and Leslie Woodie, Troutville, Richard Newton, Roanoke, Karl Newton, Troutville, Donna and Tom Clayton, Cartersville, Georgia, John W. Rader, Jr., Troutville, David and Penny Rader, Fincastle, Mary Beth and Tom Dunkenberger, Jr., Salem, Matthew and Betsy Rader, Richmond, and Andrew and Karyn Rader, Charlottesville; 16 great-grandchildren, Adam Woodie, Troutville, Keith and Rachel Cook, Fincastle, Kristin and Jeremy Moffett, Marietta, Georgia, John Clayton, Atlanta, Georgia, Will, Alex and Jack Dunkenberger, Salem, Daniel and Annalee Rader, Fincastle, Simon, Harrison and George Rader, Charlottesville, and William and Thomas Rader, Richmond; stepgrandchildren, Kirk and Carol Divers, Roanoke, Allison Divers, MD and husband, David Williams, MD, Roanoke; stepgreatgrandchildren, Josh, Lindsey and Hillary Bare, Troutville, Hannah and Philip Divers, Roanoke; sister-in-law, Agnes R. Kinzie and brother-in-law, John V. Rader, both of Troutville; and a number of nieces and nephews and many dear friends, especially her care-givers, Janice and James Crawford, Flora Ayers, Lucille Bass and Good Samaritan Hospice. The family would like to thank Clarke B. Andrews, MD and his staff for their many years of care. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 13, 2006 at The Troutville Church of the Brethren. Pastor Chris Foster and the Rev. J. Weldon Myers will officiate. Interment will be in Mill Creek Cemetery, Botetourt County. The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2006, at Rader Funeral Home, 630 Roanoke Road, Daleville. Memorials may be made to The Troutville Church of the Brethren, P.O. Box 156, Troutville, Va. 24175, Troutville Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 11, Troutville or Good Samaritan Hospice, Inc., 3825 Electric Road S.W., Roanoke, Va. 24018.
