Lucy Simpson NEAL

Lucy Simpson Neal, 82, of Roanoke, died early Wednesday, February 27, 2013. Lucy was born on January 18, 1931, in Hurt, Va., the daughter of the late Florentine Simpson and Adelle Patricia Worley Simpson. She was also preceded in death by her brother and sister, Harry Carter Simpson and Virginia Simpson Melanson. Lucy is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, William Lovell Neal; her three children, Bryan Simpson Neal, William Lewis Neal II and his wife, Mary Jo, and Adele Patricia Neal; one grandchild, Mary Lewis and her husband, Mark Vaught; and three sisters, Meta Simpson Scott and her husband, Harry, Mary Jean Garrett, and Peggy Simpson Harbert.
Lucy loved her family and home, creating beauty and serenity with artistic flourish. Her determination, creativity and drive, encouraged and inspired. Lucy's ingenuity and sense of fun made her a talented hostess and wonderful cook, making everyday occasions memorable and special for all.
Her love of gardening led her to become a Master Gardner and an active member of the Mill Mountain Garden Club of Virginia. Her enduring interest in bridge engendered lifelong friendships.
Quietly thoughtful, Lucy was sensitive to those facing hardships and was an active volunteer in church and community outreach.
The Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Second Presbyterian Church led by Dr. George C. Anderson. A reception for family and friends will immediately follow the service in the fellowship hall of the church. The inurnment service will be private.
The family humbly thanks those who have shown so much love, have provided care for Lucy and offered prayers on our behalf.
