A delightful, inspiring, gracious lady . . she was always such a bright light whenever she was a guest at my bed and breakfast in Blacksburg. I always looked forward to talking with her and listening to her thoughts on just about everything! A truly unforgettable joyful woman.

Milka, Milka, Milka! How I will miss that wonderful emphatic voice and deep laugh. You have always been one of the most fully alive people I have ever known. Thank you for showing us all the way to embrace life: with infectious enthusiasm.

I remember Milka (she insisted we call her by her first name) with such fondness. I was a secretary in Environmental & Urban Systems at the Architecture Annex of Virginia Tech from 1975-1979 and worked with Milka in getting her classroom paperwork, etc., typed.(No computers back then). What a character she was, and such a sweet and caring woman. When I left that job to re-locate to Roanoke, VA, I didn't get a chance to tell her goodbye on my last day. She hunted me down (somehow!) in Roanoke, and called me at my new home to tell me how much she was going to miss me. I loved the story she would tell about being on a ship from Bulgaria. The ship was approximately 6 miles from the U.S. coastline, and she jumped off and swam the 6 miles to shore because she so much wanted to live in the U.S. (She said that she was a champion swimmer in Bulgaria.) I also remember Milka took Charlie Steger under her wing in Urban Design, which I'm sure played a big part in making him the great person he is today (Va. Tech President). Milka will never be forgotten by me -- only admired!!
