It's hard to believe seventeen years have passed. I still remember the shock we felt when we heard the news. My friend Annette and I were just talking about you the other day - she lived in Oak Hill and was coming to visit and you came with her to see all of your family and friends -- you feel asleep and she got lost somewhere on Orange Ave. and Mitch and Sam had to go find you all. ----- Everytime I fix rice, I think of you.

I know I never got to meet you but from what I here you were an absolutly amazing man. You father I am still getting to know but I look forward to more time spending with him. Your brother is absolutly amazing and I will watch him for you. You are truly missed. I know the accident has been sometime but everytime I come to the hospital I think about you and how young you were. You truly are missed here on earth.

I never got to meet you but from what I hear you were an amazing person. You have a wonderful father who I am just starting to know. Your brother is an absolutly amazing man and I will watch after him for you. I know everyone will see you again but they still miss you here, alot. I know it's been a while since the accident but every time I come to the hospital I think of you and the young life that was lost too soon. I know you are in a safe and peaceful place.

Lisa I'm sorry for your loss. I can't imagine what you're having to go through. i could assume how important he was in your life but I don't have to, I can see it. I could be qliche and tell you that in time you will heal from the loss but I know that we can never get over the loss of one so loved as Nick. You will always be my pookie, just to let you know. I know you will always be there for me and Elijah. I think that soon I will come and leave you a blanket at your grave in case you get cold (even though everyone said you won't). I know that your Mom and Dad really loved you because if I love you better than icecream they love you a whole lot more. I am really going to miss you and going bowling at midnight with you. It's going to be hard, but I will just remember what you told me before you said goodbye to me last Saturday night. "Cheer up Pookie, everything is going to be all right." Because you always gave me really great advice. I will miss you bunches, but I will always know that your around because I feel you everywhere. I love you nick, and I love your mom and dad too. Dear Deb and Kim,
Thank you for allowing me to share in your grief yesterday at the funeral. Although I never served with Nick on his home fire department in West Virginia, he was my "brother." All EMS and Fire personnel, no matter where they are, feel that bond. And when one of us is in trouble, hurt, or as in Nick's case, dies, then his family is our concern. I cannot begin to know your pain in losing your son...but I do know that we lost a fellow firefighter, one with a zest for life and a zeal to help others...and that hurts humanity in general. There aren't too many people who do what we do in Fire and EMS services, and we grieve when we lose one so dedicated to serve others.

The news deeply saddens me...to hear that such an incredible person has left this earth so suddenly. It is so apparent that Nick touched so many people's lives and hearts...he left many footprints. I do know that everytime I was around him, that he had the most wonderful smile ~ it was contagious! He is now in heaven smiling over us all. May his memories last in your hearts forever. We know that you grieved when he was crucified and that you grieve over all the atrocities done by men -- especially in your name. You know and understand grief as you know and understand all. You know best how to comfort these parents. Lift their hearts up to you and fill them with your peace. Your understanding is beyond our human comprehension, but give them the knowledge and faith to endure even that which they can't understand. Dear sweet Nicholas,
I miss you terribly. I wish I could just see you again. All I can think about are those big brown eyes and your beautiful smile that could always melt my heart. I will cherish every memory I have of you.
You had to fight so hard to be here in the beginning of your life and how it is so difficult to see you taken away so quickly. Our hearts are broken and only feel comfort knowing where you are and that we will be able to be with you again one day.
I remember walking in the door after school and you running to meet me to be picked up. You always gave the best hugs and that never changed even after you were grown.
You had a wonderful way of making other people feel as if they were the most important thing in the world to you. You made them feel loved and special and you never failed to return that affection. You have so many people that love you and will miss you.
You had the best parents a child could have ever asked for. I know the sacrifices they made for you. You are our angel! We love you and will miss you forever!

I know how bad I am hurting, so I can't imagine the pain you are feeling. If it were not for the two of you I truly believe he would have not made it through the first couple months of his life. YOU TWO gave him his life, love, comfort, and values. He loved the two of you more than anyone in this world. Thank you for letting me love him and be with him when he was little whenever I asked. I cherish those moments. I am so lucky we still had that kind of relationship for 21 years. I am thankful and feel blessed that we had 21 years with him than a lifetime without him.

We have been friends for a very long time, more than friends we have been family. I couldn't have loved Nickholas any more if he was my own son. Even tho I share in your loss and feel the pain I can't begin to imagine. Nick was a very lucky kid and young man because he was truly loved not only by you two but by the rest of us as well. We were all proud of him and encouraged him to be the wonderful young man that he was. But the guideance and person he was on the inside was because of you two. Don't you ever forget that!! First i just want to say I knew nick back in Elementary school, and he was a great person and friend. I will always remember the good times we had together, all the times we laughed and joked in our classes. Nick will always be remembered by his smile, a smile that could light up any room. Just recently i saw Nick and of course he still had that great smile has he did back in Elementary school.

I am truly sorry to hear this. Nick and I were really good friends when he lived in Oak Hill, Wv. I miss him dearly. Nick was there for me when everyone else seemed to have walked out, he was there through the good times and the bad. We use to sit on the phone all night long and talk about anything and everything. I love Nick I truly do as a friend and more. He will reside in my mind, heart, body, and soul forever. I cannot wait until the day I get to see him again. I kno that Nick wouldnt want anyone to be upset he'd want us to all be happy but tis hard when he is just in his early 20s. My love, care, and compassion for Nicholas Ryan Shockley will never die!
