Michael Nesbit Obituary

Michael H. Nesbit, 65, of Rochester, passed away at 2:55 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at Visiting Nurse Hospice of Fort Wayne due to a sudden illness.

On Jan. 24, 1956, Michael Harold was born in Kokomo to W. Harold and Mildred L. Jameson Nesbit. Growing up he shared his childhood with a sister and two brothers. He was the best brother.

In 1974 Mike graduated from Eastern High School of Greentown. As a well-rounded student, he was strong academically, active in sports and was a member of the student council. Playing fullback for the Eastern Comets he set a football record that stood for about 50 years. Mike's record was 47 touchdowns from 1971-1973. During his sophomore year, he was a forward on the basketball team. In track he threw the shot put and discus.

His high school sweetheart was a cheerleader, Julia Etchison. They would soon become life partners. Water skiing was a great way to spend the summers. Joining the Manitou Ski Club, in the 70s, Mike perfected barefoot, jumping, slalom and trick skiing. He could perform all aspects flawlessly.

To relax, Mike enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and enjoying nature. He was a huge fan of NASCAR, the Indianapolis 500 and Sprint Car racing. His favorite drivers were Tony Stewart and Kyle Larson.

With a strong work ethic, Mike was the owner of Rain Creek Construction. Building new homes, remodeling kitchens and bathrooms and exceeding his customers' expectations was his way of life.

Mike and Julia married on June 10, 1978, in Greentown. They shared 43 years of life's adventures. Their favorite time was being home together listening to John Prine and Bob Dylan.

Left to cherish the memories of Mike are his wife, Julia; father and stepmother Harold and Laura of Branson, Mo.; sister Linda Schmitt of Rochester; brother Jeffrey Nesbit and companion Brian Delancey of Fort Ogden, Fla.; feline companion Beldar a rescue cat, canine companion Lola, an Australian Red Healer; father- and mother-in-law Donald and Arlene Etchison of Greentown; three brothers-in-law, Greg Etchison of Elwood, Gary Etchison and wife Sharon of Greentown, Terry Etchison and wife Anna of Greentown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding Mike in death are his mother Mildred Nesbit on Jan. 18, 2009 and his brother Dennis R. Nesbit on Jan. 2, 2016.
