Gilbert Daughtridge Obituary

'Gene'
Gilbert Eugene "Gene" Daughtridge, 74, passed away, Sunday, January 22, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 10, 1937 in Edgecombe County to the late John and Ruby Hull Daughtridge. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Ray Daughtridge.
Gene was a general building contractor for many years. After retiring, he enjoyed gardening and was in the Guinness Book of World Records for growing the largest cantaloupe and held the record for 16 years. He enjoyed growing his vegetables and giving them away to friends, neighbors and senior citizens. He was loved by his family and will be missed.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 54 years, Patricia Daughtridge; daughter, Sandra D. Everette and husband Bruce; son, G. Wayne Daughtridge and wife Kelly; four grandchildren, Stephanie E. Freeman and husband Billy, Brandy Everette, Joshua Daughtridge and Samuel Daughtridge; two great grandchildren, Patricia Annaliese Freeman and Aubrey Claire Freeman; sisters, Helen Manning (Henry), Sylvia Smith and Diane Rackley (Bobby); brothers, Aaron Daughtridge (Alice), J.W. Daughtridge (Janet); and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 6:00pm Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Wheeler Woodlief Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Pridgen officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives following the service.
