Edward Alessi Obituary

Edward C. Alessi, M.D., of Rome, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2023 in Rome Hospital with his family by his side. His kindness, humor, and grace touched many, and he will be deeply missed.

Born on September 28, 1930 in Rome, NY, Edward was the eldest child of Dr. Charles and Mary (Broad) Alessi. He graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1948 and received a B.S and M.S. in Biology from the University of Buffalo. Edward continued on at UB and earned his M.D., specializing in Internal Medicine. On August 11, 1956, he married Dorothy Lerczak of Buffalo, NY. Edward practiced medicine in Rome for nearly 40 years, including sharing a practice with his father, and later with his oldest son.

Edward is survived by his three children: Dr. Brian Alessi (Pam), Michael Alessi, and Kim Alessi (Allison). Edward was also blessed to have 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are Edward's siblings: Dr. Robert Alessi of Rome, Helen (Hans) Schwarz of Jasper, Alberta, and Richard (Barbara) Alessi of Alden, NY. Additionally, Edward is survived by many cherished nieces and nephews, spanning three generations.

Edward was pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy, and his brother, Charles Alessi, both of whom passed away in 2005.

Through his years, Edward enjoyed skiing, snowmobiling, tennis, sailing, traveling, gardening, woodworking, home repairs, and reading. Mostly, he loved being with his family and friends. He was ever-present, always ready to listen, to share a story, and a laugh. Those who knew him will remember his capacity to love and to truly connect with people.

There will be a private service this week at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society (https://www.lls.org/) in loving memory of his wife, Dorothy.

Heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at Rome Hospital for their compassion and excellent care.
