Joseph Hebert Obituary

FORESTPORT - Joseph E. Hebert, 87, of Newton St., passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 while surrounded by his loving family at Wynn Hospital, Utica.

A lifelong resident of Forestport, Joe was born on January 7, 1938, a son of Ernest and Ida Winters Hebert. He received his education in Forestport, graduating with the Class of 1957 from Forestport High School. On November 25, 1961, Joseph was united in marriage with Shirley J. Casey at St. Martin's Church Rectory, Port Leyden. Following their marriage, the couple settled on Newton St., where they raised their family.

Joe was a talented vehicle mechanic and worked at various garages and dealerships through the years, including Bourgeois Esso Station, Boonville, and the Adirondack Central School bus garage, from where he retired in 2000.

Proud of the community where he grew up and resided, Joe began his volunteer service with the Forestport Fire Department as a teenager. He remained an active and integral member of the department for over 70 years, where for a time he served as the Assistant Fire Chief. He also worked for the Town of Forestport as night watchman.

Joe was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, enjoying the time he spent in the woods. He also enjoyed snowmobiling and attending many local dances with his wife Shirley. Mrs. Hebert, his loving wife of nearly 50 years, passed away on April 5, 2011.

He is survived by his daughters, Laurie Marmon, Clinton, Gail (Tim) McGurk, and June Hebert, all of Forestport; his stepdaughter, Debra Burris, Maine; stepson, Charles (Tammy) Marsden, Arizona; grandchildren, Daniel Marmon (Melinda), Scott (Agustina) Marmon, Kaitlyn Hebert, Eric Worcester, Quintin (Toni) Worcester, Connor (Maddy) Marsden, and Alexis Marsden; seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Shirley, he was predeceased by his sisters, Beatrice Wood and Elizabeth Montgomery.

His Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, June 2, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Forestport, with Rev. Matthew Rawson officiating. Calling hours were held on Sunday, June 1, from 1-4 p.m. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St., Boonville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Forestport Fire Fighters, Inc., 11965 River St., Forestport, NY 13338.
