Christine Shier Obituary

CHRISTINE SHIER, 91 ROCKFORD - Christine Shier, 91, of Rockford passed away at 10:18 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, in St. Anne. Born Dec. 27, 1918, in Indiana, Pa., the daughter of Matthew and Elizabeth Kerr. Married Robert F. Shier in Detroit, and they were married for 45 years. They moved to Rockford in 1970. He died in 1998. Chris was a member of Rockford Newcomers, Rockford Hospital Auxiliary and the Ledges Women's Golf League. Also a member of Hope Reformed Church and currently a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Survivors include daughter, the Rev. Lorie (Celia Meerman) Shier of Spring Lake, Mich.; granddaughter, McKenna Shier of Spring Lake; grandson, Jon (Nicole) Vandermeulen of Seattle; sisters-in-law, Carol Arbour of Westland, Mich., and Louise Shier of Port Huron, Mich.; several nieces and nephews; and longtime family friends and devoted caregivers, Tom and Marion Gentry. Predeceased also by nine brothers and sisters. Memorial service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, in Westminster Presbyterian Church with Pastor David Smazik officiating. Reception to follow. Private family burial. Memorial contributions to Westminster Presbyterian Church or Northern Illinois Hospice. Arrangements by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road. We have lost truly classy lady who was a friend of ours for so many years. We take comfort in knowing she is really at home now and is with Bob. Dick & I will miss you Chris and will always remember the times we had together.
