Harvey Newcomb II Obituary
Harvey D. Newcomb II, 73, of Rockton, IL, died Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at Serenity Hospice, Oregon, IL. He was born January 6, 1943, in Chicago, IL, the son of Harvey D. and Violet (Ostrowski) Newcomb. Harvey was a graduate of Northeastern University in Chicago, IL. He married Jane L. Meingast on April 1, 1967, in St. Mary's Church, Janesville, WI. Harvey was formerly employed by the Rockford Police Department as a patrolman and detective, retiring in 1992. He was also a licensed private detective and licensed polygraph examiner. Harvey was also employed by the Winnebago County States Attorney's office as an investigator. He formerly served as executive secretary of the Rotary Club of Rockford and as president of the Rotary Club of North Winnebago County. In March 2016, Harvey was elected Winnebago County Precinct Committeeman Rockton 9. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, South Beloit, IL, and was also a Lay Dominican Brother. Survivors include his wife, Jane Newcomb of Rockton, IL; sons, Harvey D. (Marie Gallagher) Newcomb III of Evanston, IL, and Andrew J. (Kathleen) Newcomb of LaGrange, IL; grandchildren, Grace, Clare, Harvey IV, Dailey, Thomas and Joseph. He was predeceased by his parents.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial for Harvey will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2016, in St. Peter Catholic Church, 620 Blackhawk Blvd, South Beloit, IL, with Fr. Steven Sabo officiating. Burial will be in Rockton Cemetery, Rockton, IL. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with the Rosary at 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Sinsinawan Dominican Sisters at www.sinsinawa.org. Today our father Harvey II would have celebrated his 74th birthday. While we miss him terribly, we know that he is comfortable and at peace now, watching down on us all as we remember him. Dear Jane and family, I'm so sorry to hear about Harvey. May peace and memories sustain you during this sad time. Harvey and my husband had a very special and unique friendship. They considered themselves brothers. Their view of politics were exceptional and always insightful. Many times engaging others in spirited conversation. I will miss his friendship.
