JOSEPH B. 'JOE' SNOY, 90 ROCKFORD - Joseph B. "Joe" Snoy, 90, of Rockford passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at Bickford House, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Oct. 25, 1921, at home in Bridgeport, Ohio to Joseph and Ursula (Strauss) Snoy. He graduated with honors from Bridgeport High School in 1939, where he was a member of the all-Ohio high school band. He graduated from General Motors Institute (now Kettering) with an engineering degree in 1944. Joe married Betty Carr on Feb. 10, 1945, in Indianapolis. He was employed by Allison, Westinghouse, Rockford Clutch, and Twin Disc, designing transmissions for heavy-duty off road machinery. Joe was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers since 1952 and he had 23 design patents in his name. He did consulting work for several companies after his retirement. Travel, dancing, and keeping physically active were important to his and Betty's life. They spent their 50th wedding anniversary cross-country skiing and biked down a mountain in Hawaii in their seventies. Survived by wife, Betty; daughters, Vickie Snoy and husband, Niko Popovic of Keyport, N.J., Sara Snoy and husband, Donald Scare of Laguna Niguel, Calif., and Becky Snoy Laible of Machesney Park; granddaughters, Leslie Laible of Chicago and Julia Snoy of Poolesville, Md.; daughter-in-law, Francie Dougherty of Poolesville; and brother, Phil Snoy of Ogden, Utah. Predeceased by son, Dr. Philip J. Snoy; brother, Frederick Snoy; and sisters, Margaret Maurer and Freda Snoy. Celebration of life service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S.
