Mary Wixom Obituary

Mary Ann Wixom 1938—2017
Mary Ann Wixom, 78, of Rockford, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017, in her daughter's home. She was born September 5, 1938, in Edgerton, WI; the daughter of Fred and Kathryn (Bauer) Willmann. She was a 1956 graduate of Edgerton High School. Mary Ann was a stay-at-home mom, raising her 3 children in their younger years. She worked as a receptionist at Chevrolet Motor Company in Janesville, Wisconsin. Later, Mary Ann went to work with the Rockford Chamber of Commerce office as a receptionist. She loved her work so much; she started and managed The Chicago & Northern Illinois Better Business Bureau Rockford Branch for the first 15 years. Once she retired from there, the office had called her and wanted her to come out of retirement, she complied and was very happy to do so. Mary Ann served with the Rockford Rotary for 10 years and was a volunteer at Anderson Gardens from 2009-2016. She was also a proud member of the Golden Agers. She enjoyed going on the day bus trips to Fireside Theatre or around the Rockford area. Mary Ann was a member of the YMCA Senior Woman's Club from 2008-present. In her free time, she enjoyed going to plays in Chicago with her daughter and reading, she was a huge Green Bay Packers fan, and she also enjoyed going to Saturday Mass at St. Rita's church where she would sit with her small group of friends. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Brian) Meade; son, Paul (Denise) Wixom; grandchildren, Devin, Lindsey Wixom; and her step granddaughter, Emily Meade. She is predeceased by her parents; son, Patrick C. Wixom; and her four footed granddaughter, Sophie. The family would like to give a thank you to OSF Hospice who has helped take care of our mother since March.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at noon Thursday, April 27, 2017, in St. Rita Catholic Church, 6254 Valley Knoll Dr., with Father Howard Barch officiating. Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Edgerton, Wisconsin. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2017, with rosary starting at 7:30 p.m. in Olson Funeral & Cremation Services, Ltd., North Main Chapel, 2811 N. Main St. Rockford. Dear Lisa and Paul,

I was surprised to see your mom's obituary in our Edgerton reporter yesterday. I'm so sorry for your loss. We were neighbors and grew up together in Highwood.

We also will be neighbors again someday, as we have our cemetery plot very close at St. Joe's.

I often wished I would run into your mom when I was putting flowers on my parents and sisters and brothers plot. She always had such beautiful flowers on Patrick grave.

I have a lot of good memories of your mom, all of us neighborhood kids would hang out at her parents little country grocery store.

I will be keeping you in my prayers, God Bless. Pat (McGlenn) Chiumenti

Mary Ann, we will definitely miss you. You were like a Mom to me, you were loving, yet stern, told me to get my act together, and to appreciate the things I have. One year, at the BBB Christmas dinner, Mary Ann won Chicago Bulls Tickets, and I won a watch, lol. She gave me the tickets, for free no question. I remember the white Cutlass Supreme she had, the car was like a 96, but it was clean, immaculate, she told me she had the engine cleaned once a year, and the car barely had any miles because she only drove home to work. Mary Ann had the best stories, funny and historical, I will definitely miss you saying Oh my, lol, you left a lot of good memories Ms. Wixom, I hope to be remembered the way I remember you.

Lisa,
I am so sorry to hear of your moms passing. I have had her in my prayers for quite awhile after hearing her name among the sick at St. Rita's. She sure was a fighter. God surely has a place for her in heaven after all she has been through over the years. I will continue to keep her and Patrick in my prayers.

I am so, so sorry for your loss. I had the great pleasure of working with Mary Ann at the BBB. We remained in touch after our time there, met for lunch, and visited at her home or on the phone many times. Her quick wit, easy laugh, and, of course, love of the Packers, made her a true treasure! I was blessed, and honored, to call her a friend!

It was awesome to work with Mary Ann at the Chamber of Commerce. She was always the sunshine in that place....and in my heart. I am so grateful to have known her. I am a better person to have had her life touch mine. Lisa, you and your family are in my prayers.
