Sam Sciortino Obituary

SAM SCIORTINO, 93 ROCKFORD - Sam Sciortino, 93, of Rockford passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012, after a short illness. Born Dec. 28, 1918, in Rockford to Joseph and Angelina (Tarvimina) Sciortino. He was married for 68 years to the former Marcy Verni, before she passed away. Sam was a boxer and avid golfer; he loved his dogs and his family. He was the owner of various restaurants, Granite Front, Town Hall, Jacks or Better and the Flamingo. He was a member of Holy Family Church and the oldest member of Mah-Nah-Tee-See Country Club where he played cards every day with his buddies to whom he sends a fond goodbye. He also wished to thank his special nieces, Carla Bennett and Lisa Yeruski for making it possible for him to remain living in the comfort of his own home and to Kathy Rhodes for taking care of "my boy" (his dog). Survived by sisters, Jean Johnson and Anita Ballinger; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased also by his parents; brothers, Joseph, Carl and Pat; and sisters, Angela Butera, Margaret Priola and Mary Sullivan. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday, July 23, in Holy Family Church, 4401 Highcrest Road, with visitation from 9 a.m. to time of service. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Thank You UNCLE for all the good times & the GOOD TIMES you & I shared everyday!! I will keep feeding the birds,squirels,rabbits, chipmunks, & what ever wants to share! I promise to not leave the phone off the charger even though U can now with the new battery. I told U someday I will prove it & I will. You were My Pleasure to be around!! Tell my Mom & Dad how badley I miss them! They were the best. Thanks for sharing alot of family stories. Thanks for all the Laughs & the tears I will shed for awhile but I know how happy you must be with all the loved ones I miss so much!!! I will rest with that. You always told me to slow down & relax so I will concontrate on takin care of me. I Love & miss U already. I am sending U a balloon catch it & share with the family.
