Gilbert Montoya

1951 - 2016

Gilbert Montoya, 65, of Capitan, New Mexico, passed away after a hard fought battle of cancer on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at the Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born in Lincoln, New Mexico on February 28, 1951, Gilbert lived most of his life in Lincoln County, New Mexico.

Gilbert was a hard-working man who worked as a master home builder, facilities manager, and building inspector for Alto Lakes Golf and Country Club. Gilbert was an outdoorsman and craftsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, chopping wood, and golfing. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his wife, girls, and grand babies, walking his Starsky boy and restoring his classic '56 Chevy pickup.

Gilbert was extremely generous and was always willing to lend a helping hand. During his last few years he practiced his gifts of building and maintenance by volunteering with the Noah Project (Needing One Another's Help), a ministry of Angus Church in which he helped people around their homes when they needed it. He also helped with the church food bank.

Gilbert was extraordinarily loving and proud of his four daughters Sheila, Jennifer, Billie Jo, and Maggie, their spouses and his five grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, the love of his life of 45 years, Patsy Montoya. He is also survived by his mother Favia Dalton and mother Ruby Montoya, along with eight loving siblings, many nieces, nephews and countless friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 11:00am, at the Angus church of the Nazarene, 103 Bonita Park Rd, Capitan, NM 88316 anguschurch.org.
