Catherine Aquistapace Obituary

Catherine M. Primeau Aquistapace, "Kitty", 78, died peacefully at her home on October 1, 2009, after an 8-year courageous battle. Catherine was born March 3, 1931, in Bellows Falls, VT, the daughter of Catherine and Malcolm Primeau.

She was raised and attended school at Saint Joseph's Orphanage in Burlington, VT. She attended Cathedral High School and graduated from Mount Saint Joseph Academy, Rutland, VT, Class of 1950.

Catherine was employed by the Rutland City Public Schools for many years working with children with special needs. She retired in June 1995.

Kitty enjoyed spending time with her family, especially during the holidays. She enjoyed traveling to Florida with her husband Frank where they both enjoyed walking on the beach. She became an avid bird watcher in her later years. She never "lost" a game of Scrabble and was the queen of practical jokes.

Catherine was predeceased by her youngest son Paul Robert in 1976 as well as her brother Malcolm Primeau, three sisters Marjorie Kendall, Agnes Kendall and Rita Beam, and brother-in-law Peter Aquistapace.

She was a wonderful wife and mother who was the center of her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years Frank R. Aquistapace Sr., daughter Janet Marie Durkee and husband Dean of Martinez, CA; daughter Patricia Mae Trapeni of Rutland, VT; son Dr. Frank Robert Aquistapace Jr. and wife Suzanne of Rutland, VT; and daughter Mary Catherine Smoolca and husband Joseph of Windsor, CT.

The joys of her life were her 10 grandchildren: Sarah Durkee, Devon Durkee-Bettolo and Ethan Durkee; Joya Trapeni, Brian and Kyle McDermott; Zachary and Jordan Aquistapace; and Christian and Matthew Smoolca; and 3 great-grandchildren: Noah Durkee, Alexa and Eva Bettolo.

She is also survived by her special friend Mary Anzalone, whose family lovingly accepted Catherine into their home during her high school years. She leaves many people who will love and miss her including her sisters- and brothers-in-law Laura Aquistapace, Julie and Fred Boudreau and Regina and Larry Sears and numerous nieces and nephews.

At the request of Kitty and her family there will be no calling hours and please no flowers. Those wishing to honor Kitty's memory may make a donation in her name to their favorite charity. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 5th, 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Church in Rutland, VT. Officiating will be Rev. Justin Baker, Pastor. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

A reception to celebrate Kitty's life will follow.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Our deepest sympathy to Frank and the entire Aquistapace family. I often asked Mary how her mother was doing. She had a heavy cross to carry these past eight years, but she did so courageously. Kitty will be missed.

To the Aquistapace Family,

What wonderful memories I hold of Friday nights at Jackson Ave, and sitting out at the pool with Kitty.I still can see Kitty running around the kitchen in her pink lacoste shirt, faded jeans, and tennis sneakers cooking up a storm! She was one of the coolest parents of our childhood/teenage years. My thoughts and prayers are with each one of you.

To the Aquistapace Family:

When I was born, Kitty was the first neighbor to visit my mom and dad. She gave me a beautiful pink outfit that I keep in my baby chest. I can't think of a more generous person, a kinder soul or a more lovable human being.

May heavenly angels surround her and wrap her in their wings, forever to rest in peace.

All my best,
Christina

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
