SPRINGFIELD - Gary W. "Moe" Haskell, 56, died May 23, 2009, at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, N.H., after collapsing while officiating at a ball game.
He was born Dec. 16, 1952, in Bellows Falls, the son of LeRoy S. and Catherine (Cavanaugh) Haskell.
He was a 1971 graduate of Bellows Falls High School.
Mr. Haskell worked as a substitute teacher for the Springfield school system and coached junior varsity baseball, junior high football and basketball, all in Springfield. He was produce manager of the Walpole (N.H.) IGA. He was a member of Southern Vermont Baseball Umpire Association and Vermont Football Officials Association and was a football official for more than 30 years, officiating many state championship games and two Shrine games. He also coached PeeWee Football (Dolphins) for more than 30 years.
He was also a member of BPOE 1619, Loyal Order of the Moose and the American Legion, all in Bellows Falls.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Taclof Haskell, whom he married on Feb. 15, 1992, in Westminster; three sons, Nathan, Tyler, both of Bellows Falls, and Heath of Rutland; two daughters, Jessie and Kaylee Haskell, both of Springfield; two brothers, Brian and Kent "Grump," both of Bellows Falls; two sisters, Brenda Stack of Saxtons River and Judith Haskell of Rutland; two grandchildren; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 29, at the Fenton & Hennessey Funeral Home in Bellows Falls.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at the funeral home, followed by a celebration of life at the Loyal Order of the Moose Hall in Bellows Falls.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bellows Falls Post 37 American Legion Baseball, in care of Dick Forbush, General Manager, Pierce Lawton American Legion, 42 Rockingham St., Bellows Falls, VT 05101.

Brian, Grump, Judy, Brenda, Ruth and kids,
I was talking to my brother David tonight and he told me about Moe. Needless to say I am shocked and deeply saddened. He was a helluva guy who will be missed by many.
