Anthony Aguilar Obituary

On Tuesday, May 2 at 3:44 P.M. the world became a little poorer place when Tony Aguilar left it. Tony was born in Auburn on January 18 at the Highland Hospital in 1956. When his parents took him home it was to Highland Orchard in Penryn. So, he was known as the Highland Guy. As a child Tony loved where he lived and would spend his days happily trailing his dad, Tony Senior, through the orchard and around the ranch. He would wear his dad's work hats as they worked in the orchard because he always wanted to be like his dad. He began to be formed as a little branch from a great tree. He graduated from Saint Rose Grammar School in Roseville and was a graduate of Del Oro High School in Loomis. After high school Tony went to work for Yamasaki Landscaping where he worked for three years. It was there that he developed quality landscaping skills which gave him the confidence to open his own company so Aguilar Landscaping was formed. He was known for his quality work and dependable services. In 1993 Tony was married and in 1994 his daughter Alicia was born and joined her older sister Amanda. At this time Joanne Neft had arrived in Placer County and the agricultural community began to be revived. The Mandarin became the future of the Ag Community. So because of his love for Highland Orchard and his entrepreneurial spirit Tony began to plant a mandarin orchard at Highland. The orchard was planted in stages and grew and flourished. Tony began to realize a need for a greater development at the ranch and the vision for the present day packing shed began the shed was built, the customer base was formed. Today Highland Orchard grows and sells award winning mandarins throughout the area. In 2010 Anthony and Mary Cummins were married and Tony became a loving grandfather to Beau and Dallas. Tony will be remembered for many things. Among them his love for his family, especially his daughters Alicia and Amanda, his positive approach to life and his ready smile, his excellent work ethic and his dependability. As Tony leaves this earth his wife Mary, his daughters Alicia and Amanda and his mother Noreen Aguilar grieve terribly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 13th at St. Teresa's of Avila in Auburn at 11:00 A.M. Donations may be made to the Highland Orchard Scholarship Fund at Del Oro High School or to the Auburn Salvation Army.

I met Tony in the early 80s I worked at the local nurseries where he would come in to buy plants for jobs, he was always such a nice person to talk to and just be around, his great sense of humor and knowledge which he was always willing to share. I just found out of his passing and am very sad the world has lost a truly decent human being. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

Mrs. Aguilar (Noreen), I was absolutely devastated to hear of Tony's passing. I started coming to the mandarin farm several years ago after my neighbor Mary Emmett's recommendation.I always looked forward to the beginning of mandarin season and used to kid Tony about how short the season was and how I needed therapy to treat my withdrawal symptoms when the season ended! I will so miss his wonderful smile and laugh. My love and prayers are with you and your family.

Greg and I just heard of Tony's passing. We are devastated and heartbroken. We met Tony about 15 years ago when we started purchasing mandarins from him. He was always so friendly and always had a smile on his face. We had so many great conversations with him. May you rest in peace Tony, we will miss you terribly. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I'm so sorry that we missed his celebration of life. We haven't seen Tony in many years, but always thought of him as a friend. He had the warmest heart and the best smile and laugh. I'm so sorry to hear that he's gone at such a young age. Our sincerest sympathy to Tony's family.

I remember meeting Tony back in the 1980's. He had just left Yamasaki Nursery and I had just started there. When I started my own business we would work on projects together and over the years he installed many of my designs, always doing impeccable work. Wendy and I are so sorry and shocked to hear of his passing and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. He was a friend and colleague and will be greatly missed.

Ken & I were remembering when we first met Tony back in 1992 when we lived in Newcastle & our neighbor across the street from us recommended him to do some landscaping for us. Ken always had a project for Tony to do on our 5 acres. He even planted an orchard for us but no mandarin oranges for us. We became friends back then & I even remember him coming over during this time to tell us he was going to be a father. He was so excited about it, came to show us pictures of Alicia after she was born & in later years would bring her & Amanda with him to our house. During this time we attended St. Joseph in Auburn but weren't happy there & decided to join SS Peter & Paul in Rocklin. Tony told us his parents went to that church & we then met them & over the years Ken & I would see them at Mass. In 1994 when I started my own CPA practice Tony became a client of mine & later his parents and Highland Orchard. Ken & I look back & realize we've known Tony for about 25 years. We will truly miss his ever smiling face! We can't be there in person now that were living in Arizona but we are both there in spirit during this difficult time to give hugs & our prayers to Mary & Noreen.

PS His funeral Mass is on a most wonderful day in that it is the 100th anniversary of the first appearance of Our Lady of Fatima.

On behalf of the Placer County Vintner's Association I would like to send our sincere condolences to the Aguilar family and all those at Highland Orchards. Having served as both president of Placer Grown and The Placer County Visitors Bureau, I got to see Tony as a true asset to not just the citrus industry but to all of us involved in Placer County Agricultural and Ag Tourism. We at the PCVA are so grateful to Farmer's like Tony whose enthusiasm, hard work and tenacity have paved the way for new agricultural opportunity and helped to keep existing agriculture entities alive and thriving in our region. On a personal note, I will miss seeing Tony's smiling face and his positive demeanor at ag functions and community meetings. He was a doer and a supporter and his absence will indeed be felt.

Sincerely,
Teena Wilkins
