Douglas SCHULTZ Obituary

SCHULTZ, Douglas C.
Feb. 20, 1943 - Oct. 20, 2011
Surrounded by close friends and family, Doug passed away peacefully after a two-year courageous battle with esophageal cancer. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Fay; daughters Mechelle (Sacramento, CA) and Cristy (Kenosha, WI); and will be greatly missed his grandsons, Anthony and Bailey. He leaves behind his sister Becky (Sun City Center, FL), whose loving care guided him to the end, painlessly and with dignity. Doug will be missed by his friends and family, many who still reside in the Lockport, NY area. He will be sorely missed by his faithful feline companion, Minion.
Born in Lockport, NY to parents, Charles and Mary Schultz, he graduated from DeSales High School in 1960. He joined the

US Navy at age 17 and retired after 22 years of distinguished, honorable service. He went to work for the Dept. of Defense and retired after another 21 loyal years to his country. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and 'puttering.' Fondly nicknamed 'MacGyver,' he could make something out of nothing and fix the unfixable. Doug was a kind, generous man who helped friends at a moment's notice. He also devoted many hours to the Boys Scouts and Girls Scouts of America. Doug was truly one of a kind, and will be missed by all.
A celebration of life will be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the VITAS Hospice Charitable Foundation, 3841 North Freeway Blvd., #210, Sacramento, CA 95834.

a poem for my big brother

So this is what the living do
day after day...
what you have given up and
do no more.
I REMEMBER YOU.
I MISS YOU.

I would be there again and again.
My heart's desire was for you not to be afraid.
You were so brave.
What made you smile?
What was behind the only tear I saw?
I had seen other tears, but
what was yours about?
I still wonder...
I am less without you.

When something needs fixin'...
When I hear a good fishin' tale...
When I see a beautiful sunset...
Or see a Harley ridin' free...
I THINK OF YOU...so often.

I want those three years back
we didn't speak.
I wish we could have seen each other
more often.
I wish your heart could have healed.
I love you like I had a chance
to tell you once...
I LOVE YOU NO MATTER WHAT !

So, I'll just keep doing what we do
until I can give it up
and see you again.
If I have only one poem in me,
it's for you.

love you and miss you, sis

p.s. so glad you were my big brother...
I would choose you again !

I miss you Daddy. God it hurts but I know you are much happier now. You final wishes have been granted and I hope you are at peace. It is still hard to continue knowing you are not there for me to call. I miss you.

Our thoughts, prayers and love are with you all. Doug was a great man, he loved his family and was dedicated to helping others. I remember great times spent camping with Doug helping us girl scouts learn to work as a team to build campfires, and pitch tents. He will be in our hearts forever.

So many things to say but it boils down to I am going to miss you so much. It's just not fair you had to go so soon. I will miss your shoulder to cry on, your jokes, being able to call you when I need help fixing something and will always think of you when the light bulbs burn out. You were so brave all the way and I will never forget that. Please watch over us from time to time - when you aren't catching the big fish. Please keep a special eye on Tony; you were the world to him. I love you Daddy so much! Miss you.

I only met Mr. Schultz a few times. I am a friend of his daughter, Cristy. She spoke so highly of him. I was jealous of her relationship with her dad since my dad had passed away a few years ago. She would speak of all the memories she had that involved her dad and it made me so happy for her that she had the opportunity to be able to cherish the last few years. My heart goes out to the family since I know the road ahead is going to be rough and unfamiliar. Life is precious and I hope that the months ahead are filled with love from family and friends as the grief becomes a reality. May Mr. Schultz's memory live forever in their hearts and his love continue to emerge from their actions from here on out.

How lucky I am to have had such a wonderful man as her daddy. I don't know how to do this daddy! I know you would want me to be strong and I promise I will, but for now... The house is empty and my heart aches. I love you pops and know my life will never be the same. You sure did leave an impression on all the people you met and it was a priviledge to be your daughter. I miss you daddy and love you more than I could ever express. Catch a big fish for me and then move them my way so I can catch one. Love you Daddy!
