Evelyn C. Soares

Evelyn Soares was born the third of five children to Manuel & Balbina Leal on June 5, 1927 in Hanford California. Elk Grove has been her home since 1952 where she spent many years as a beloved Teacher's Aid in the Elk Grove Unified School District. Evelyn was an active member of the S.E.S. Portuguese Council where she served for 49 years as Secretary/Treasurer. She passed into God's warm embrace on August 5th at the age of 91 surrounded by her loving family and many others whose lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Soares; sister, Bell Lawrence; brother, Manuel Jr.; and parents. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Carmo; grandchildren, Ivan, Angela, Jared; great-grandchildren, Nelia, Destini, Ricky; sisters, Mary Mello (John), Shirley Caetano (Roger); and several loving nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her kindness, boundless generosity and sweet, gentle spirit. Service will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 9961 Elk Grove-Florin Road, Elk Grove. Visitation at 10:30 AM and Rosary/Mass at 11:00 AM, Tuesday August 14th. Interment at St. Mary's Cemetery. Reception to follow at the S.E.S. Hall, 10428 E. Stockton Blvd., Elk Grove.
