Francis DUFFY Obituary

DUFFY, Francis Joseph 'Duff'
Was born August 10, 1919 in Sacramento, California. He passed softly away in the afternoon of Tuesday March 26, 2013, to join his beloved wife Arlene.
Duff grew up in Sacramento and graduated from Christian Brothers before joining the Navy during WWII. He returned home after the war and wed his longtime sweetheart, Arlene Schmit. They celebrated their 66th wedding Anniversary this past December 28, 2012. As newly weds Duff began working for Standard Oil, which took the couple from Alturas to Woodland to Redding To Sacramento and back to Woodland where they lived for 52 years.
Duff was a generous, friendly, funny and kind man, loved dearly by his family and many friends. He was of course loved most by his wife Arlene, and two grateful children. Duff and Arlene shared many adventures together, traveling and meeting new people everywhere they went. They volunteered for Care Car and other community causes. Duff loved baseball and coached Babe Ruth and Little League teams through the years. In later years he proudly played as a member of the Legion 77 Senior Team, often times running the bases for the 'younger' members while he was in his mid eighties. He and Arlene enjoyed attending many sporting events together.
He was quite a remarkable man and will be missed so much by all of us. We will always keep his warmth and humor in our hearts and memories.
Duff is survived by his children; daughter Patricia (Christopher) Carlson; son Michael (Leann) Duffy; grandchildren Heather and Sean (Shawndra) Duffy; great grandchildren Levi, Kaylee and Ethan Duffy (their grandmother Cindy Duffy); nieces Linda Sheppard and Barbara (George) Sell; nephew Gary (Caroline) Hughes; his devoted caretaker Ili Qeleca and many friends. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife Arlene parents Rose and Edward Duffy; brother Lawrence Duffy.
A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday April 2, at McNary's Funeral Chapel, 458 College St., Woodland Ca. A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 3, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 301 Walnut St., Woodland, CA, with reception following at the Parish Hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a favorite charity.

Dear Patty and Mike,

Your Mom and Dad were some of the best people and best memories for me growing up.
I am so sorry that I couldn't attend the memorial services.
As others have written they are together again, how wonderful is that.

Duff was one of my very first patients who I saw first in Sacramento in 1989. He then followed me when I opened my Woodland practice and brought in his lovely wife Arlene and his friends and relatives. I looked up to him. He always cheered me up and I will miss him dearly.

I can only smile, because Duff and Arlene are together again. They will both be remembered for their kindness, warm hearts, and giving spirits.
My love to Duffy and Mike, Sara (Terhune) Richards

We are so sorry that we could not attend Duff's funeral. Do to my decent knee surgery I would be unable to walk or stand for much time at all. You're all in my hearts and prayers. Duff is now happy being with Arlene forever.

Duff and Arlene were two of the dearest people in mine and my daughter Taylor's lives. We shall remember them both fondly and often. Duff, I don't think I've ever met anyone more devoted to his spouse than you were. You were there for Arlene completely and lovingly and now you are both together again. Love Laura

Dear Patty, Michael and family,
In the last two months, Woodland has lost two of its most beloved citizens. Arlene and Duff were always so kind and friendly. The last time that I saw Arlene and Duff was at Applebee's. After a short conversation, Duff said, “Make sure to come on by the house sometime for a longer visit.”
Please accept my heartfelt sympathy for your loss.
Love,
Wally Summ
