Harold Horrell Obituary

Harold Horrell, Jr.
November 27, 1928 - July 9, 2023
Roseville, California - Harold Lovell Horrell, Jr. (94 1/2) passed away July 9, 2023, with his wife of 75 years, Norma by his side, surrounded by family. Born in Fresno, CA, "Hal", as he became known later in life, moved with his parents, Harold L. Horrell, Sr. and Kathryn Horrell, and sisters to Rio Linda in 1931. He attended Rio Linda Elementary School. His parents owned Horrell's Market in Rio Linda, where he learned to be a butcher, like his father. He and Norma met at Grant Union High School, where they both graduated before marrying on June 13, 1948. Harold graduated in 1946 and then attended Grant Tech. He and Norma Lee Hart were married at the Rio Linda Methodist Church and belonged even after moving to Roseville in 2005. Harold is survived by his wife, Norma, 4 children; Sharon (Rick) Lawin, Gail (Kurt) Klotz, Steven Horrell and Randy (Missy) Horrell. He also leaves 3 grandchildren; Chris (Coleen) Anderson, Dawn (Josh) Sisson and Randi Lee (Matt) Wagner. He has 5 great-grandchildren; Ryan and Summer Sisson, Connor and Cooper Anderson and Jack Wagner.
Harold worked as a journeyman union meatcutter/butcher for over 50 years, both in his own shop and for Albertson's. He was a member and former President of the Lion's Club, lifetime member and past Noble Grand of the IOOF, member of the RL Chamber of Commerce and proudly served 4 years in the California National Guard. He spent many years as a volunteer firefighter in Rio Linda and could be seen running to the fire station from his butcher shop, with apron flying. as well as serving on their Board of Directors. He was a proud member of the RL Historical Society, Early-timer's Group and Grant UHS Alumni Association, having lived nearly his entire life in Rio Linda. He loved cars, especially his Hudson and had quite a collection of models. By motorcycle he and Norma traveled all over the US and many camping trips were enjoyed with family and friends, as well as travels in their RV. In later years he enjoyed rides with the Sun City Roseville Bicycle Club and belonged to the SCR Billiards Club. Harold was a baker and cook, frequently provided recipes for cooking meat to his customers and loved dropping cookies off to his friends.
Harold will always be remembered as a loyal, hard working, kind, dedicated and loving man who will be forever loved and missed. Per his request there will be no service.
