Ira Rubinoff Memoriam

Ira Ray Rubinoff

It has been four sad and tearful years since we lost our wonderful father and husband, Ira Ray Rubinoff, and we write this to remind his friends, family, and strangers just what an amazing man Ira was. Throughout his life, Ira never sought the false fame, fortune, or riches so many people chase, instead, he chose the pursuit of more meaningful riches, riches that came from the people's lives he could make better. Through his strong, determined, and caring personality, he pushed those around him to never settle for anything less than excellence and success. Many of them met the challenge. For those that faltered, Ira redoubled his efforts, and his love and dedication carried them through, leading to the successes and riches he wanted.

Ira was humble. He was not pretentious, and material things meant nothing to him. He felt as comfortable at a five-star restaurant as he did at a beer and pizza joint. He could shop at Goodwill just as easily as at Nordstrom's. Titles meant nothing to him. Character was everything.

Ira was honest, as honest as a summer day is long. Lying was out of the question and doing right was expected, because reputation and honor was everything. When it came to the truth and doing what was right, there was no exception. No matter the situation, you could always count on him, you knew what side he was on, and you could bet your life on what he would do.

Ira was generous, generous with his time, his money, and his possessions. He never had to be asked twice for help, and often not even once. When he saw a need, he was the first to offer help. Whether it was legally, monetarily, physically, or emotionally, Ira was always the first one there. It was not unlike him to hand over, not only his car, but also the pink slip, or to write a check for a meaningful amount and never ask the person to pay it back.

Ira was sensitive. As a lawyer, we often think he would have had a heart of stone, but he was the opposite. Surprisingly, he was one of the most sensitive people you could know. He loved animals, his family and life. He loved nature and one of his greatest joys was working in his yard. He also enjoyed classic movies, and you could often catch him shedding a tear at the end.

Ira was faithful. Once he knew he could trust the character of a person, he would never let them down no matter the circumstances. He never wavered. He never gave up. He never quit. His desire to make life better for someone kept him steadfast and loyal. He was the man you wanted in the trenches with you. He could always be counted on.

Ira was caring. He loved his wife. He never let a birthday, an anniversary, a holiday or even an ordinary run of the mill day pass without letting her know how much he appreciated her. He was the consummate romantic, and even after forty-seven years of marriage he still opened the door for her, reminded her daily how much he loved her and how special she was to him.

Ira Ray Rubinoff died March 2, 2021, at 8 p.m. of Covid 19. He was a wonderful husband, father, and friend whose shining light was extinguished too soon, not only for him, but for the people around him whose lives will never be the same. He was our rock, and we miss him terribly. Until we meet again, Godspeed, Dad.

Ecclesiastes 12:7 "And the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it."

Wow, so sad to learn this. Mr. Rubinoff was my instructor for a personal law class at CSUS, probably circa 1977. His energetic instruction style was legendary. He later taught Business Law for the Becker CPA Exam Course so we worked together because I was an instructor too.

May perpetual light continue shining upon his soul as he enjoys eternal rest.

Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.

I worked with Ira in the Legal Division of the Franchise Tax Board. In the days when we worked in the office 4-5 days a week, I spoke to Ira every day, from 2006 to his retirement. (His office was right across the hall from mine, literally 5 feet away.) Ira was always friends and encouraging. He always smiled. He always had kind words of advice. I missed him when he retired. A few weeks ago, I was wondering what happened to Ira in his retirement, and I checked out the California State Bar website, and learned he was deceased. No details or time was provided. I felt sad and empty. Ira was a good man and a friend. I missed him after he retired, and now I know I will miss him forever. RIP, friend.
