James Hallett Obituary

Born May 25, 1946 to Marian and Clifton Hallett, James C. Hallett, age 66, died on March 11, 2013 from Parkinson's Disease. Jim graduated from Luther Burbank High School in 1964 and completed his formal education at the California Maritime Academy where he received a Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Clifton B. Hallett. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Viola (Anne) Wilson in 1967. After forty-six years of marriage, he leaves behind his wife Anne, son Steve Hallett and daughter-in-law Brandi, daughter Carol Hallett, daughter Laura Elders, daughter Jamie Price and son-in-law Travis Price - grandchildren Nicholas Hallett, Jackson Elders, Piper, Annabelle, Henry and Noah Price. He also leaves behind his mother Marian, sister Patricia Henderson, brother John Hallett and a large extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts. Jim worked for Matson Navigation Company in San Francisco for 31 years during which time he rose from the position of Third Engineer to Senior Port Engineer. From 1978 to 1982 Jim took on the role of owner's representative at Sun Shipyard in Chester, Pa. for the construction of the SS. Kauai and the modification of the SS. Lurline. After his return to San Francisco, he became Senior Port Engineer and was responsible for the maintenance and repair of Matson's fleet of container ships and barges. He took an early retirement in 2000 due to his advancing Parkinson's. Respected and admired by all who knew him, Jim will be remembered for his work ethic, his integrity, his loyalty, his sharp mind and perhaps most for his infectious smile. Jim & Anne moved back to Sacramento in 2004 to be closer to family. He spent his remaining years enjoying his family, boating on the Sacramento River and, most especially, his grandchildren. Jim's life was cut short by PD, but while he lived, he lived with joy, enthusiasm and a great love of nature, music, tinkering, water and his family. He was a man of seemingly endless energy who could fix anything except Parkinson's Disease. He died quietly surrounded by his wife, his children and his Megan. We will miss him dearly but rejoice that he is at last free of the confines of disease. The family would like to express their gratitude to the caregivers at Modern Care and Living, the doctors and staff at Kaiser, and especially the staff of St. John's Retirement Village and Yolo Hospice in Woodland. A memorial service will be held on April 27, 2013 at the Pavilion at Elk Grove Park at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation in Jim's name. We invite all who knew him to share in a celebration of his life. For further information please email the family at [email protected].

To Anne and family--
I could only hope that my family and I would be even the tiniest bit courageous and loving as you all have been. I met him only once, but he was always part of any conversation with Anne. I know he will be dearly missed.

I am very sorry to hear of Jim's passing. He was a very nice guy and a gentleman in all respects. I worked for Matson for 35 years retiring in 2009. Although I worked in container equipment management and purchasing, I had many chances to get to know Jim.
