Las Cruces , New Mexico - Janet Elaine Viegas (Nielsen), 76, of Las Cruces, New Mexico died peacefully on November 30, 2022 at home amongst family. Janet was born October 1, 1946 in Sacramento, CA . Janet was a life-long resident of the Sacramento Delta, Walnut Grove/Tilton/Thorton Area. Janet attended Walnut Grove Elementary and graduated from Courtland High School in 1964.
Janet was a hair stylist for 50 years. She loved being outdoors in her yard tending to her garden and chickens, ironing, writing letters, and helping others whenever she could.
Janet is preceded in death by her husband John Viegas and parents Julius and Ella Nielsen.
Janet is survived by her son John Viegas Jr. of Las Cruces, New Mexico, brothers Mike Nielsen (Penny) of Cougar, Washington and Richard Nielsen of Walnut Grove, California, nephews Scott Nielsen (Jan) of Oakdale, California and Greg Nielsen Santa Rosa California and niece Gina Hernandez (Danny) of Rancho Murieta, California. She is also survived by more family and friends.
Cremation will take place in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Celebration of life will be held in Rio Vista, California at a later date.
