Jeffrey Adams Obituary

ADAMS, Sr., Jeffrey C.
Born on Dec. 29, 1951 in Napa to Charles and Dolores Adams. Jeff passed unexpectedly at his home in Grass Valley on Oct. 22, 2007. He was devoted to his family and is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Tami, and two children, Brittany Joanne and Jeffrey Charles, Jr. Jeff recently retired from a 37-year career with Lucky's/Albertsons and is a lifetime UFCW member. He was well known by customers for his friendly and cheerful greeting at the stores on 48th & J, LaRiviera, and Auburn. His outgoing personality and love of people led him to a successful sales associate position at CarMax in Roseville, where he worked for the past year. Jeff dedicated nearly all his free time to his family. He volunteered in his children's classrooms and attended all their sports events. He liked to hunt and fish, and was a founding member of the Sacramento Anglers Society (SAS). He also enjoyed reading, movies (especially Westerns), and golf. He received his AA degree in history, a subject he loved. Other survivors include: brothers Capt. Gregory F. Adams, USCG (Ret.) and wife Susan, Timothy W. Adams and wife Audrey; sister-in-law Ginny Frizzell and husband Ron; nieces and nephews Jessica and Austin Frizzell, and Elizabeth and Timothy Adams, and Tyler Hilderbrand; and father- and mother-in-law George and JoAnn Hilderbrand. Friends are invited to attend a service on Sat., Nov. 3rd, 1 p.m., at Church of Christ, 670 Whiting St., Grass Valley. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association.

I was so saddened to hear of Jeff's passing. Our family holds your family in our hearts with prayer. I only knew Jeff from the check-out at Luckys-Albertsons-Save Mart. Our son, Matt, and his girlfriend, Tessa, worked with him there. Though the years Jeff consistently had a positive attitude. He was always cheerful and shared his love, pride and graditude for his family. He is truly a bright light that will continue to shine in our memories and remain as an example of man at his best. I believe that is the way to Peace on Earth - one person at a time. He will be missesd. The Jacques Family - Linda, Phil and Matt

Every time I bought groceries, I tried to be in Mr. Adams line, just like so many others....he was warm and friendly and funny and knowledgeable. I know he was looking forward to retirement. My sincere sympathies go to his family.....such a loss of such a special life.

My eyes filled with tears when I saw Jeff's picture in the Journal and read of his passing. I can only imagine the giant hole that was left in the hearts of those who loved him. He was such an adoring husband and father. Anyone who ever went through his line at Albertson's could tell what a special guy he was. How he went out of his way to be kind and to spread a little joy during those few minutes that he had with each one of us. My husband and I recognized that he deserved recognition for putting in the effort day after day to brighten the lives of those he came in contact with, and so my husband wrote a tribute to him in the "Cheers and Jeers" column of the Auburn Sentinel. When I talked with Jeff later, I could tell that it pleased him a lot. I am very glad that we had a chance to let him know that we appreciated him. I am keeping you all in my prayers. God bless.

Jeff was the "Best of the Best". He brighten any visit to the grocery store - particularly if you were lucky enough to get in his line. I've seen a long line at his counter with other counters open just because he was such a delight to deal with - mainly, because he cared so much for his customers.

He always had wonderful stories about his family, and it was so obvious how much he loved them. Additionally, he always had a wonderful smile on his face.

He was dearly missed when he retired, and I was just so sorry to read that he had passed away.

I send my deepest condolences to his family.

Jeff was my absolute favorite checker at Lucky / Albertsons / SaveMart (which he missed). What everyone else has said about him echos my thoughts -- and tears in my eyes.

Dear Jeff,

I shouldn't be surprised that God called you home so soon. Your passing is our loss and heaven's gain. Without question, you are the most dedicated family man I have ever known. It was my honor to check along side of you everyday at the store for so many years. Like everyone else, I will forever miss all the stories. I miss hearing about Tami's broken toes, Brittany's soccer and water polo games, Jeffrey Jr's grades, and your brothers' successful careers. I miss the stories of the Gusinator's puppyhood and hearing you give out a recipe to customers whose dogs had been skunked. I miss you asking me where I parked my broom today...?
But most of all, I miss watching you light up an 80 year old lady's face by saying "Good Morning Beautiful".

The Auburn Journal got it right when they named you the "Best of the Best".

I promise to support your family in any way I can. And please, please put in a good word for me upstairs.

Love and miss you,
Beany

I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear about Jeff. I was another loyal customer who always stood in Jeff's line just to have him brighten my day, hear words of wisdom and about the full life Jeff had experienced. His family meant the world to him. He was so proud of his children's academic and atheletic achievements. He always had a twinkle in his eyes when he talked about his wonderful wife. He certainly left his positive mark in this world and I feel blessed to have known him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time. My time heal your hearts soon.

I just want you to know that your husband/father was so proud of his family. Each time I would go through his line we would talk about the kids and what they were doing. My daughter is a dancer, he would tell me what a great athlete his daughter is. He was very excited about his new career and I am sorry for your loss. If there is any comfort in knowing that he was a bright star in many peoples lives, he was.

I met Jeff about four months ago while shopping for a car for my brother. He was a great guy, it's amazing how you met someone just one time but will remember them forever. I was reading the newspaper today & my heart dropped when I read the name. My heart goes out to the family, may beautiful memories give you strength during this difficult time. Love Tam & Stacee

I always tried to get in Jeff's line at Albertsons. I knew he would give me full attention as his customer, not talk over me to the next checker or the person bagging. I'm sure his family knows they have lost a truly great husband & father.

Well, God must have been short some angels....
I was so saddened to see Jeffrey's glowing face in the paper....I have shopped in the Lucky's/Albertson's etc store for years, and as others, built a fun friendship with him.. The last I remember, he was supposed to have retired, and there he was...working! I gave him a bad time about it...
He brought friendship and fun into everyone's world he touched!

Mr. Adams obviously was a very extraordinary person. I did not know him - really did not know his name until reading in the Auburn Journal that he has passed away. I just knew that if I was in his check out line at Albertsons, I was being helped by a very happy, friendly guy. Always was pleasant, would talk about his kids - he would sometimes wear a sports picture button showing them off. He just seemed like a great family guy, who I am sure is so missed.

Jeff was an amazing man who always spoke proudly of his family. I was a colleague of his at Carmax and enjoyed his friendship and attitude towards others. Jeff was a great guy!! I was fortunate enough to be his office buddy at work. He loved his family so much and always talked to me about how much his daughter, son and wife meant to him. Once I start a family of my own I will be as proud as Jeff was of his. He has taught me so much and touched many of our hearts.

My heart and prayers are with you all!!!!
