Jerome "Jerry" Wells Bean slipped into eternity with our Lord surrounded by family on Saturday, September 13, 2014 due to a dissecting aorta. God gave Jerry a wonderful 78 years with his family and friends. He was married to his late wife, Leanna Marie Lyons Bean, for 42 years. The marriage blessed him with five children and their spouses Chris Bean, Therese and Steve Chamberlain, Barbara Bean Jensen and Jim Runyon, Patrick and Traci Bean and Catherine and Ian Anderson. He is survived by his children, his wife Dolores Emerson Bean and her four children Paul Emerson, Nancy Garrett, Julie Roberts, and Susan Emerson. Together they have 16 grandchildren. After 18 years at Hallmark Cards, Jerry began his own successful commercial finance company for 19 years. As an active member of his church he was often recognized for his beautiful reading and great singing voice. Vigil will be on Thursday September 18th, 6-8 PM at the Herberger Family Elk Grove Funeral Chapel. to Chris, Therese, Barbara, Pat and Katie, I can't believe it has been 6 years since your dad and my dear brother-in-law died. Our prayers are with you as you remember his loving and fun spirit. It doesn't matter how long or short a time it has been since we were last able to speak to and touch our parents, the day they left us is always remembered. Just know he is not forgotten by the rest of us either. Love Aunt Betty and Uncle Jim

Jerry I was just thinking about you. I miss you so much. What a great childhood pal, and a great guy. Forever and always.

I was friend of Jerry's since Santa Clara '85 when he and the team factored my Long's Drug's sales of Doodlemania Posters. I stayed in touch over the years but thought I'd surprise him with graduating from SFSU in Cinema at 61, but I was too late. by 8 mos. We spoke last in 2012 but I moved and could not get a number.. I got the obit today, so I am in a way happy to have had him alive for these last 10 months in my thoughts. I know it has been tough for him these last years but his spirit was always heathy. I respected him a lot. It was American Greetings, not Hallmark, he'd remind me. Here I wanted to get his input on documentaries, he had some great opinions. I wish all the Beans well. tbohme at yah...oo

Jerome was my best friend in the whole world. I just got out of jail and found out. Jerome was such an amazing man and I will never forget him. we used to hang out at the malt shop and get a chocolate malt. we used to smoke a good cig when things were stressful. if you needed anything, Jerome was there. he was the handy man of the neighborhood and he was loved by every one. my friend Jamie and chris were the closest of friends. I love you beany poo.

Jerry was amazing. I dated him in middle school and we went to the movies together. He was a wonderful friend, companion, and supporter. RIP.

me and Jerome were friends in grade school back in the day. me and him used to play ball in the park with skippy, my dog. he was there for me when skippy fell off that cliff back in 48. we went to church together until he moved to elk grove. he was a great man, friend, and brother I can say. the only time I ever was mad at him was when he stole mary jane the prettiest girl in 8th grade. his spirit was lighter than a childs. his legacy of a great personality will live on.

Jerry was a great friend. I remember golfing with him for fun, drinking a beer and talking about life, and occasionally smoking a cigar when times got stressful. We may not have been close or the best of friends, but we made it work. I loved our trips to Target to shop for our wives and seeing that respectful, young man, Alex helping us at the cash register. Ah, good times. He will never be forgotten!

Jerry and Bob were the only brothers I really knew as a child and I loved them to bits. I cannot think of a time when I didn't know him. He always had time for me which sometimes probably annoyed my sister Leanna when she wanted to be alone with him and he would let me tag along.
I have so many happy memories that it would take too long to write them all but I will miss him and his Peter Pan attitude.
You never got old Jerry and you were an adventurer to the last. His trip for Rachel's wedding was so touching as I know it was difficult for him, Dolly and Chris but I was so happy to see him. I knew it would probably be the last time but like always we had a laugh and a lot of fun.
Rest in Peace? Maybe, but more likely he and Bob are already planning a trick to play on Leanna and Pat! Go for it Jerry...Fly with Christ!

I don't think I've ever known a family as close as the Bean family. Kudos to Jerry and Leanne for raising 5 great kids plus a nephew. As neighbors in Sunnyvale, we had lots of fun 4 wheel'n, hunting and don't forget our house decorating competition at Halloween! Parents would drive to our houses to "trick or treat", then leave . Great neighbors, great friends, and a wonderful soul. Rest with God Jerry. Until we meet again. Kaylin

Chris, Theresa, Barbara, Patrick and Katie, all of your families and Dolly, please know that we cherish the many happy moments Jerry shared with us as he did with you, and we hope you all find great comfort in knowing his faith and his generous spirit has delivered him to the Lord (once he gets past Leanna, Grandma Bean and Patricia who all probably have a few thoughts to share before he strolls through the pearly gates!!!) There will never be another lovingcharacter quite like Jerry Bean. How blessed we all are to be carrying on his legacy of living and loving life to the fullest!!! We are praying with you especially Thursday night and Friday morning.
