John Marsh Obituary

John Stewart Marsh, lovingly known as Jack, passed away surrounded by love on November 26th, 2025, at the age of 76, after a decade long battle with glioblastoma brain cancer. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, warmth, and unwavering devotion to his wife of 53 years, Paula, as well as to his family and community.

Born on October 2, 1949, to Charles Stewart Marsh and Doris Anne Duncan, Jack grew up in Sherman Oaks, CA. After his mothers passing when he was just 13, his father remarried Erma Marsh, and the family moved to Pasadena where Jack graduated from John Muir High School in 1967.

He went on to attend the University of Redlands, graduating in 1971 with a BA in Business Finance. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Sigma Fraternity and, most importantly, met the love of his life, Paula, at a school dance called "The Stomp" in 1970. A few years later they married on November 18th, 1972, beginning a joyful marriage that lasted 53 years!

In 1973, Jack began what would become a 35-year career with Weyerhaeuser. His business acumen, patience, and exceptional work ethic saw him rise from a single-family home mortgage lender to Senior Vice President of Weyerhaeuser Realty Investors Sacramento Branch, where he helped fund and manage large-scale housing development projects with multiple home builders in Northern California, Nevada, and Arizona. He strategically retired in 2008, having earned the respect and admiration of colleagues throughout the industry.

Jack was a man of deep faith and service. He was a longtime member of The Lutheran Church Of The Resurrection in Granite Bay, where he gave generously of his time and resources, including helping to finance and fundraise for a well in Tanzania. His commitment to serving others extended throughout the community. He served as President and board member for the Sacramento branch of Sertoma (short for SERvice TO MAnkind). He was a Boy Scout leader and volunteer, and briefly served as President and board member of the Folsom Soccer Club.

An avid sportsman and lover of the outdoors, Jack would often be found on the golf course, ski slopes, hiking trails, out on his road bike, or fly fishing in the Sierras. He played co-ed softball in Folsom for years, and even tried his hand at windsurfing-despite Folsom Lake not being the ideal location. Whether teaching his kids to ski, leading a backpacking trip, or organizing a round of golf with friends, he was happiest when surrounded by family and creating memories together.

He and Paula loved to travel, exploring the world together many times over. From backpacking trips to Havasupai and summiting Half Dome in Yosemite, to family vacations in Truckee, Mammoth, Hawaii, Mexico, Europe, and all over the world, Jack embraced every opportunity for adventure. He hiked what seemed like every trail around Folsom Lake and led Boy Scouts on expeditions to Philmont. Whether it was a rugged backpacking trip or an international adventure, Jack was always ready to explore somewhere new.

Jack was known for his patience, kindness, gentle heart, honesty, and humility. To know him was to love him. He did everything his wife told him to do-except eat boiled brussels sprouts. That's where he drew the line. The slowest eater at any table, he would savor anything, but his favorite was slow cooked ribs.

Jack is survived by his beloved wife Paula; his three children, Mike Marsh(Lindsey Marsh), Chris Marsh(Rachel Marsh) and Dr. Whitney Boulton (Keo Boulton); and seven grandchildren: Miles, Madelyn, Olivia, Jack, Maxwell, Declan, Lincoln, and a grandchild on the way. His kindness has left a legacy that will live on in all who loved him.

A service will be held at The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Granite Bay at 10 a.m. on January 3rd, 2026. Immediately following the service there will be a celebration of life at Jack's Club, directions will be provided. All who knew Jack, or know someone his life touched are welcome to celebrate his life with us. Please RSVP here https://jackmarshlifecelebration.rsvpify.com.

I didn't know Jack well but my time with him was part of great memories. He attended my bachelor party at Frank and Maria's in 1972 and I got to know him better at a gettogether in Mt Shasta with the Gerbils. It was great fun connecting with my younger Birds.

What a lovely obituary. I appreciate Jack and the Marsh family friendship and support of the Myers family. His grandkids are my grand nieces and nephews. His courageous survival for so many years was a gift to the family. My sympathy to Paula and family during this tough time. God bless you.

We´ve known Jack & Paula since shortly after they married. I had the pleasure of working with Jack during our mutual years with Weyerhaeuser. He was a gentleman, a dedicated employee, a great family man and an all around good citizen. From competing with one another in amateur timed ski races at Mammoth to playing golf at the Ojai Valley golf course, we shared many good times. I valued my relationship with Jack and admired his courage and fortitude in dealing with such a devastating disease during the last nearly two decades of his life. Our profound and sincere condolences to Paula and their beautiful family.
