Madeline Moscatelli Obituary

Madeline Marie Moscatelli

March 5, 1923 - December 23, 2024

Pismo Beach, California - Madeline Marie Moscatelli, 101, of Pismo Beach, CA., passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024 surrounded by family. Madeline was born March 5, 1923 in Missoula, Montana to Henry and Marie Cyr.

Madeline reflected fondly of her childhood, often finding moments of light despite being raised in a post-depression setting. Madeline was one of five, she had three older brothers: Henry, George, and Richard, and one younger sister, Duane.

In 1946, Madeline graduated from Dominican University of California with a degree in education. She was the first in her family to attend college, and received a scholarship from the Catholic Church. After graduation, Madeline started her first teaching job in Jackson, CA. In Jackson, she met her future husband, Alfred Moscatelli, who worked as a gas station attendant.

Madeline married Alfred "Fred" Moscatelli on August 24, 1947. They were wed at St. Patrick's Church in Jackson, where their love was celebrated alongside family and friends. They were blessed with four children: David, Anne, Peter and Karen.

In 1950, the Moscatellis moved to Sacramento, CA after Alfred was transferred there for work. Here they raised their four children and Madeline worked as a teacher at St. Peter's Catholic School in Sacramento for about 10 years. She then worked in the Sacramento public schools for over 20 years. She was loved by her students and touched the lives of many. Madeline was also an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church where she dedicated much of her life to volunteering and helping others.

After retiring in 1990 and moving to Pismo Beach, CA in the mid-90's, Madeline continued her love of philanthropy by working at the San Luis Obispo food bank and harvest bag for many years. Madeline also volunteered her time at the local schools tutoring children, and was a dedicated blood donor and subsequent member of the 10 gallon club. She was an avid reader, enjoyed tai chi and water aerobics, monthly casino road trips with her friends, and spending time with her family. Madeline was also a member of Martha's Ministry at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Pismo Beach where she made good friends through faith.

Madeline is survived by her children, David (Anna Maria), Peter (Sonia) and Karen (Marc); 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred and her daughter Anne (Gary).

Madeline made many friends and was adored by everyone who knew her, known for her quick wit and genuine kindness, she never failed to make us laugh. Remembered for her loving and giving spirit, she had a heart as warm as her home. Her door was always open, and she welcomed everyone with open arms, making all who entered feel like family. Madeline especially will be remembered for her fiery banter, hilariously inappropriate jokes, dedication to the Church, and the incredible family she built.

A Mass will be held in her honor on Wednesday, January 22nd at 10 a.m. at All Hallows' Church in Sacramento (5501 14th Ave. Sacramento, CA 95820). Immediately following the Mass, there will be a burial at St. Mary's Cemetery (6509 Fruitridge Rd, Sacramento, CA 95820). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Hallows' Church in Sacramento, CA.

I am sorry to hear of your loss.
Your mother was a good friend to mine. I remember her smile as she welcomed us in for coffee break for my mom, and the sadness that i felt for your family when you lost your dad.
She was a part of my childhood good memories.

I have very fond memories of Madeline Moscatelli and her family. She was such a giving person and a teacher to a few of my siblings. Condolences to them as they go through this hard time.
I see she was just shy of her 100 birthday! This is a very good picture and just how I remembered her. I was in Pismo Beach recently and tried to contact her but was not successful. Prayers to her family. I still enjoy memories of our younger days together.
