Mary Jean Brine

September 17, 1931 - January 3, 2025

Sacramento, California - Mary Jean Brine, 93, of Sacramento, passed away peacefully at home on January 3. Born on September 17, 1931, in Williston, North Dakota, Jean was the daughter of James Kalil and Sophia Farris. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Robert Brine, her parents, and siblings.

A gifted pianist, Jean began teaching piano at 16 and later taught at the Pease Conservatory of Music and Sacramento City College. She accompanied choirs, soloists, and church services throughout the region and appeared on television, including California Gold. Jean also coordinated entertainment for injured service members at area military bases and was honored by the Red Cross.

Jean married Bob in 1957 and became a devoted mother to four daughters. Later, she worked for the Employment Development Department, conducting training seminars statewide. She was also a talented cook, authoring the cookbook Perfectly Persimmon.

Jean's faith and love for her family defined her life. She is survived by daughters Margaret (Mike), Roberta, Elizabeth (Sam), and Diane (Dave); 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services: Viewing on January 19 at 11 a.m., Rosary at 1 p.m. at George L Klumpp Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony's Catholic Church on January 20 at 11 a.m., with burial to follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Sacramento Life Center.

Thank you for teaching us to play piano, make Lebanese food, love candy and celebrate the holidays to the fullest. You kindly shared your smile and talented piano playing with others. So sorry to hear of her death, were boy friend and girl friend from late 1950 until July 1951 when was transfered By the Air Force to Washington State. I was working with the Red Cross at Travis, and Mary and I went to a lot of places entertaining, I remember her parents very well, as I spent a lot of time at her home in Sacramento very fond memories of her. I talked to her last about 2021 She was a beautiful person,, and I shall never forget her.
